Sick of everyone comparing Bortles to Carr
|
Yes, Carr is better than Bortles. I think everyone can agree on that. However, why does everyone feel the need to say "we could have had Carr omg Caldwell sucks blah blab blah." NO ONE on this board wanted Carr. Everyone wanted manziel Bridgewater or Garropolo. Everyone either said Carr won't be good look at his brother or Carr won't be good look how he does when there is a slight pass rush he turns into Gabbert. Dave and 31 other teams passed on Carr in the first round. Raiders got lucky that Carr is legit. It happens. For everyone complaining that we didn't draft him just remember, you didn't want him either.

Nobody wanted Garoppolo (correct spelling). Everybody wanted a first round quarterback.
People did not want Carr because he was terrible under pressure. That part had nothing to do with his relationship to a bust. Also, not everybody wanted a QB. Some people still wanted Clowney or another defensive player. Quote:Nobody wanted Garoppolo (correct spelling). Everybody wanted a first round quarterback.lol you must have memory loss. Half the people on this board didnt want Carr because of his brother
Carr has been sacked 64 times in 40 games, Blake has been sacked 123 in 37 games.
If Bortles would have been a raider, he would have been much better statiscally than Carr. For me Blake is better.

I know I didn't want Carr. Not because of his last name, but because he played in an air raid offense with Davante Adams against low-tier opponents. I wanted Mack or Watkins, but I understood the thinking and reasoning behind taking Bortles. (Didn't like it at the time though because our offense had NO talent on it, and thought it was a bad idea to take a franchise qb until we atleast had an offensive line).
Atleast the Texans didn't take Carr.

Honestly, I was hoping for Mack.
However, grabbing a QB at #3 that the team felt was going to be the franchise guy was alright too.. Bortles may still turn out to be that franchise guy. He just has a lot of work and mental game improvement to do. I'm just REALLY glad the Texans didn't end up with Mack and Carr. Theyre the team that REALLY missed out on that IMO.. Those two would've been perfect for them.
A lot of people wanted Khalil Mack. Some people wanted Sammy Watkins, but they did not know we would get the chance to snag another very good receiver in the second round.

I think there was some sentiment on the board for taking Mack and then Carr, people did suggest it. Manziel was getting hyped at the end. Most people didnt want Teddy by the end (TMD did tho). Nobody saw Blake coming tho. I think there was a rumor the day before and we all blew it off. Watkins was desired too. Saw a lot of Watkins and Mack love. People argued about Clowney a ton, I think the general sentiment was that he was gonna be lazy so we should avoid.
Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster The Home Hypnotist! Media on the Brain Link! Quote:Peyton must store oxygen in that forehead of his. No way I'd still be alive after all that choking.
I remember someone hyping up Aaron Murray out of UGA back in 2014. I am a huge Bulldogs fan but I strictly remember posting in that thread. Especially about how Murray choked in big games and couldn't carry the offense after Gurley went down and Green left for the Bengals during his draft class. I said he'd be a solid back-up and that's all he's been since he was drafted. I honestly didn't like ANY of the QB's in that class. I didn't like Bortles, Carr, Manziel nor Bridegwater. I felt like we were going to take a QB regardless of the quality at the time. But I repeated it several times that we couldn't afford to miss at this position once again like we had done with Gabbert. And here we are again questioning who will be our QB of the future for the third time within the last seven years. It's a bummer. I think I was leaning mostly towards Mack in that draft.

I remember who I was wanting then now. I found it in another thread around that time. I wanted either Jake Matthews at OT or Mike Evans at WR in the first round. And as far as QB's I wasn't sold on any of the top prospects and was content on us taking Tahj Boyd or Zach Mettenberger at some point on day two or day three to come in and compete with Chad Henne. I was content on maybe waiting another year to get Winston instead. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. I still dont know who I really wanted back then, I think I was starting to buy the Manziel hype, but I really wanted us to trade down. I know I thought Clowney had red flags with the 'coasting' his senior year. But most of the board didnt like the Bortles pick at first, then they did the usual thing and went crazy about him like 3 days later. What is interesting is if you look at the other thread from January that talks about Bortles, a louisville cards fan describes him really well on the third page. Fun stuff. Hindsight is 20/20. I wanted Mack, and Carr possibly in the 2nd(I had no preference in the 2nd) if we were going to go QB. We had the shot to pull what the Raiders did, but we didn't. Dave liked Bortles for whatever reason, 2 GMs in a row picking project QBs in the 1st round. Disgusting.

Most people like to think hindsight is the only correct way to think of things like this. The truth is nobody - not even the Raiders - could have known at the time Derek Carr was going to be a great QB early in his career. Or at least better than Blake Bortles by a mile. If there was, he would have been drafted early in the first round, not the second. We could do this about every draft and always be wrong about someone.
This thread is fun as well

They know what they're doing and the decision was probably made a long time ago when Bortles would start. If they make Bortles sit it'll be viewed as a good developmental decision. If/Since Bortles is putting in a solid pre season and is named the starter AND he starts successfully, it'll be viewed as a great managerial draft decision. It's a win win. This is an exciting time to be a Jags fan!^^This When was the last time we had a win/win situation for our team? WOW they had me fooled One thing that reading these past threads has done for me.... TMD sure did post a ton. He is the reason I never noticed how much MJF posts now.
