I say making the playoffs would be considered a success in the long run.  

Winning the division and hosting a playoff game would be considered a huge success

Any wins in the playoffs is even greater.

Right now, I don't think it's about wins in the long run, but rather making the playoffs is the key barometer.

Most people are micro-oriented so I don't expect them to fully understand.
