Schumer withdraws offer on Trump's wall

#1

Like he was REALLY going to give Trump a victory

Schumer withdraws offer on Trump's wall
Republicans aligned with Trump are unlikely to go for any bill that does not offer a major boost in border wall funding.

Schumer is a savy New Yorker. It's all part of the negotiating strategy which he and Trump have done countless times over the course of their lifetime.

... jello to the left of me and jello to the right but here I am stuck in the middle of the Dems and GOP

Schumer and Pelosi are rich people who have to pretend to care about poor people. They are just terrible actors.

Why should we set aside money for a border wall when Mexico is gonna fund it? Just have Trump call the Mexican president and tell them we need that money they owe us or we nuke them. Problem solved.  Banana

So when you pay for a car you give them the money ahead of time so they can afford to build it?

Wow ... that was a really bad analogy.

In the case of the Wall, there is a single buyer and that buyer said they are not going to pay.  When auto companies are going to invest in manufacturing a car, they have a global marketplace of over 500 million potential buyers to sale their model.

Is Mexico even a real country? They sure don't act like it.

If somebody else is gonna "gift" me a car, it's their responsibility to pay for that car. We shouldn't even be arguing about how to fund the wall at all, since Mexico is paying.

But you do?

In your wall building across country lines expertise, how does this whole thing get paid for?

The point stands. Just because the US is ponying up the money to builds the wall now doesn't mean that Mexico won't end up paying for it, one way or another.

And as a matter of policy, even if Mexico never pays for it (likely if the Dems retake the government and waive the cost) $18B is a cheap price for a major item of national defense equipment. For comparison, it's the same as the cost of 18 F-22 fighters, and much more likely to actually get used.

I'm not a fan of more taxes, but you could tax businesses that send money to Mexico from the US. I'd bet that it's almost exclusively illegal immigrants doing it, and even it wasn't, any negative to come from it likely wouldn't effect very many people.

It wouldn't pay for the whole thing but could put a dent in it.

That's not how Trump said it would get paid for during the campaign. He made it very clear that Mexico would pay to build the wall. Not by tariffs, not by cutting federal aid to them, none of that. Anything other than Mexico ponying up the cost for the wall and paying the contractors would mean that Trump lied........... again.

Unless you read something that I didn’t, Trump made a very generic comment about how they’d pay for it. Either outcome could fall within his comments. Besides, if they pay a tax that funds the wall then they are paying for it. They don’t have to write the check for it to be true.

So were you okay with the dozens and dozens and dozens of blatant awful lies that Obama spewed?

Because you harp on this one thing that hasn't even happened yet.....

As I've said, over and over, I did not like Obama. I did not vote for Obama. I didn't vote for Hillary either. She was a crook as well. I voted 3rd party.

I'm not a Republican or a Democrat. I'm a registered Independent. I hate both parties. Neither one wants to actually compromise on anything.

This is always so baffling to me. Every single problem someone has with Trump, someone on here goes "Well what about Hillary or Obama?!" If we wanna keep playing this card then lets say "I wonder how Republicans would have responded to the story about paying off a porn star 150K if the story had been about Obama?"

Obama is no longer president. Hillary lost. We don't have to keep bringing them up.
