Did you hear him shun the kid for wearing a Marines shirt? Wow! Just wow! This is a non-partisan issue.

I had a professor like that at Miami University (OH). She was one of those flower children of the 60's. She told us she used to go to the airport and spit on soldiers returning home from Viet Nam. It was like she was bragging about it. A bunch of us got up and left the room when she said that. She was a whack job!

What did you expect going to that school in Oxford?

This is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE! Wow! Do all California teachers teach this type of stuff??

Yes, all 266,000 public school teachers in California teach alike.  Just like the fact that all of the Florida teachers emulate Mrs Cooper, the 5th grade math teacher from Palatka Middle School.

I thought so too. Thank you for confirming.

It's the small school Harvard of the midwest though.  Smile It's a public Ivy.  Cool

I saw a student do that to my biology teacher. Epic.

When I was in High school, the principal got KO'd out by the buses. Unfortunately, my cousin got pregnant by the guy who did it. He was a loser.

This is a typical thread.

"Look what this person in another state did!"
"Wow, that's terrible. He must be a liberal."
"For sure. Because liberals are bad."
"Bad? They're evil."
"Yeah, liberals are evil. They ought to be outlawed."
"Outlawed? They should be executed."

And it all goes downhill from there.

Meh, I don't make sweeping generalizations except in the case of Hollywood.

I think the problem with teachers are the unions. They allow bad teachers to keep teaching and instead of rewarding great teachers, it allows all teachers to get measly pay raises instead of the ones that deserve it getting large pay increases. There's zero incentive to be a good teacher.

Hitler was evil. Liberals are just blindly following an ideology that they don't fully understand the pros and cons of, merely because some old guy with bad hair tells them it's a great thing to do.

Oh, hey, I think that shoe fits both feet.

And with total confidence that someone here is going to flame me for saying it, military recruiters have no place in high schools.

The military is a fine career choice for a lot of high school seniors, many who go on to great things, and would've been a much better choice for many who chose otherwise to their later regret. You're just grinding your anti-government ax again.

No, I'd agree that for many people, the military is a fine career choice. I'd also ask if you've ever seen a military recruiter at work in a high school, because their interest is in meeting quotas on graduation day, not in giving children an honest look at their profession. Military recruiters will say anything to get a kid to sign on the dotted line, and let them figure everything else out once the promised specialist assignment in Germany or Japan turns out to be three tours dodging IED fragments in Irag right after getting out of boot camp.

All jobs do it to a point, sure, but how many of those jobs promise you a desk job in an exciting foreign country then get you blown up by a kid wearing a 72 virgins belt?

McDonald's recruiter: "Come work for us! We have lots of room for growth and upward mobility!"
Reality: Flipping burgers for $8/hr. until you get promoted to assistant manager and start flipping burgers for $9.50/hr.

Military recruiter: "Sign up! See the world! Great educational opportunities! Specialized training you can use when your two years are up!"
Reality: You're lying on the sand bleeding out through a gaping hole in your torso, and the last thing you hear is a band of ISIS fighters celebrating your death

The promises made by the recruiters aren't too different, really, and neither one is entirely honest, but one of those two recruiters knows that there are even odds your career ends with a bang, and the other one just wants a warm body working the microwave until Dollar General comes along to snap up those managerial skills for $9.60 an hour.

The odds of dying in combat are much much lower than even. You're exaggerating.

The odds of dying because the fryer explodes are almost zero. You're glossing over the issue.

No, the military is a fine career choice that's produced millions of great Americans. You want high school seniors to be deprived of the opportunity to sign up because you've caught some left leaning anti government form of TDS since last January.

You do realize both of these "companies" have positions other than flipping burgers and combat troops, correct?

No no, even a systems analyst 600 miles from any fighting can be killed. Papercuts are a killer.
