What do we spend the spare cap on?

#21

I don't think theres any need to worry about the cap with the folks we have crunching the numbers. Granted its getting way harder now that we don't have unlimited money.

I'd like to sign Yannick early next year and just have it out of the way.

I believe that any extra cap space should be split evenly among the 12th men. Us, the season ticket holders. I will by beer with my cut and they will get it back anyway. Win win for everybody.

Sounds like a reasonable plan.

So Trey Burton is all but declared a free agent at this point according to the national guys. He’s received inquiries from 16 teams so far. I’m guessing the Jags are one. I’m thinking we are going to target either Burton (60% chance) or Pugh (80% chance) as our 1 flashy free agent signing. I think we let ARob walk and we bring back Lee and Poz. Then look to the draft for a developmental WR to replace ARob in addition to drafting whichever position we didn’t secure in FA in the first round TE/Guard.

Yeah. There are certainly a number of other ways to get through the offseason acquisitions, but this is the way I think it’d do it also.

(I’d also draft a guard before round 4)

If Yannick is willing to do a deal early I would be all for that as well.

I am in the same mindset as you with your first comment.  I am not worried about the cap management of this team.  They have shown to be more intelligent with their spending and the way the deals are structured.

And that's why they probably won't blow $16 million on Allan Robinson.

Honestly I'm not all that interested in bringing Lee back even if ARob leaves. He never really wowed me, and I really wanted him to

Marqise Lee is a solid WR, he'd play a lot of minutes on a lot of teams, so if the contract is reasonable, of course we should bring him back.

Couldn't disagree more. What does Lee do well?

Lee needs to walk.

Lee needs to walk.

He's not big, he's not fast, he's not durable, he doesn't stretch the field, he doesn't score touchdowns, and he leads the league in drops.

Surely we should prioritize that over Arob...

The original post was what would you do with the spare cap if ARob and Colvin are not re-signed. I don't like that assumption, but I would shore up the OL in free agency with a solid guard, sign a move TE to give Blake a big target if reasonably priced, and sign a backup caliber LB, QB, and CB. With the remaining cap, I would pay my draft picks, have some money for an emergency, and rollover the remainder for next season.

I'm not so sure they will lose Colvin since it looks like they aren't keeping AROB. Defense is what got the Jaguars within less than a quarter of getting to the Super Bowl and I'm sure they'd love to keep that secondary together. If they make him a good offer, I believe he'd love to return. If they keep Colvin, they'll likely go after one of the interior lineman. Norwell is the top guy, but they won't be able to match what a few other teams will offer him so I hope they can get Pugh at a "not too crazy" price. This would enable them to target a tight end and wide receiver in the 1st 2 rounds and hopefully a developmental q.b. they really like in the 3rd round.

If no A-Rob, I see us bringing back Marquise Lee and Aaron Colvin, pursuing Justin Pugh and Jimmy Graham, and drafting a WR in RD1 and an Offensive Lineman in RD2.

Agreed. The team can do better than Lee imo

According to Mike Kaye we're not spending money on OL

Rolling it over to next year for Yannick/Ramsey/Jack's deals?
