49ers Sign CB Richard Sherman to 3yr $39 million Deal

#1

Seems like a lot of money and years for a 30 year old CB coming off of a ruptured Achilles and offseason ankle surgery. I haven’t seen how much is guaranteed yet though

They have their QB locked down, they are coming off a bad season, the contract really doesn't effect what they will do in free agency and it's only a 3 year deal. In the end, I don't think it's that bad of a deal. If Sherman does well, they get a steal and if he doesn't, they can get rid of him fairly easily.

$13 million is a “steal” for a 30+ year old CB?

You're looking at it the wrong way. It's an incentive laden deal according to ESPN, so nothing close to the final figures are fully guaranteed. It's most likely front loaded as well, so most of the big money will come this year and if he falls short, they could most likely cut him with no really bad penalties or dead cap money. All the risk is in 2018 and even then, he has to hit certain goals, to get that extra money. In my mind, it's a low risk, high reward contract for a guy who was one of the top 3 shutdown corners in the NFL, just a couple of years ago.

This move very well may have put the 49ers ahead of the Seahawks in their division.

Yep.  And the Rams are still the best team in that division, imo.

This deal is an easy win for the 49ers, its basically 7 million for one year plus a bunch of incentives. Sherman will more than likely never see 39 million.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

This is a good deal for the 9ers. They have a QB that's playing lights out. Now they are revamping that defense. Sherman was the perfect fit.

Does everyone seem to think he's coming back 100% from that Achilles tear?
Huh
