'Zombie' raccoons are terrifying Ohio residents in broad daylight with odd behavior

“Zombie-like” raccoons have made for a spooky sight in one Ohio city.

Authorities in Youngstown “have responded to over a dozen” calls in recent weeks about the mammals behaving oddly in the daytime, WKBN-TV reported Tuesday.

I live in southern Ohio and had to kill a raccoon a couple of years ago that was acting the same way. It was like 3:00 p.m. and my dogs were barking like crazy. Right outside the fence a raccoon was acting very weird. Almost like it was drunk and it was lunging at my dogs. I live in a very rural area and have a friend that works for one of the local parks. I had seen this behavior before and he told me that when you see a raccoon in the middle of the day, something is normally wrong with it and when they "act drunk", that is a sure sign they have a serious disease that can be easily transmitted to dogs called, distemper. I quickly got my dogs inside and humanely disposed of the animal with one shot to the head. I then buried the body, so no scavengers could have the disease passed on to them.

They freak me out. I've seen raccoons dumpster dive like a pro. It's crazy how they get around obstacles. Drunk racoon's? Forget about it.
