Yup, draft Chark in the 1st round is a reach.  You can get a Chark type of receiver every draft year, nothing special about him.  Look at the tape, he's route tree is limited mainly vertical and he looks physically weak, upper body wise.

Wynn in the 1st and Chubb in the 2nd to go with the smash mouth, ball control, nasty defense mantra.  Or this draft is a bust.

Chubb or Royce will be there in the 3rd... lets go TE in the 2nd

Yes we do, and Soward started it all.

But for the Soward bust, we likely would not have drafted Reggie Williams and Matt Jones.

But for the Williams and Jones busts, we likely would not have drafted Justin Blackmon.

Arguably, that one missed pick (Soward) set this team back fourteen years, because we didn't draft a good WR until Allen Robinson in 2014.  There's no telling what other positions we would have strengthened if we didn't have to invest so much at WR.

Soward was 5-11 at best and clearly a slot WR.

Soward had a ton of character issues. 

I've seen no such character red flags for Chark.

I can see you not wanting to go WR at 29.  I can see you not wanting Chark at 29.

But I don't see the Soward comparison at all.

Not when a team has 3 good corners and will run man, the safeties still gonna come down with no fear of the WR beating them over the top of they have faith in their corners.  Cole and Dede might make them think twice about it this year though.  Last year it was 2 rookies and Lee.

There is no team in the league that is putting 3 corners out on an island consistently vs 11 personnel, sorry. Maybe rarely on short yardage downs. Even last year on the far too uncommon times we ran 11 personnel we were facing nickel defenses pretty much every time.

If we lined up in 21 (2 RBs 1 TE), we need to be good enough at WR to keep that 8th guy out of the box.

If we lined up in 12 (1 RB-2TE), even though that is a predominantly run look, we still need to be good enough at WR to keep that 8th guy out of the box, some of the time.

Even with a good receiver most teams will play an 8 man box Vs those formations.  

What may help us out a lot is having two TEs who can create mismatches in the pass game and hurt teams from those formations. Also having a true pass catching H-Back type who can block a little would allow us to manipulate the defense how we see fit.
