I noticed that too. When the pick came up, Coughlin was saying Joe D spoke up and said "get him," or something to that effect.

We're talking about a half dozen picks before Mr. Irrelevant was selected. I really can't argue the pick.

Wait a sec...

"Of all the graduating Punters"????

Just how many legitimate Punters do you think there were? He was already the fourth Punter drafted.

He averaged 42.7 yards per punt his senior year (his best year). That would put him 33rd among the NFL punters last season, so he's basically a guy who wouldn't get one of the 32 punting jobs.

True, at that point in the draft the odds of getting a useful player are very low, but if you draft (say) a fast DB there's always a chance such a player could make the team. Unless JoeD saw something in his form that could be corrected, it was a wasted pick.

What was his net? DeCamillis is very much a directional guy. I think he's the ST coach who said that the best punt is one that goes 40 yards without a return. If Cooke can bang 'em high and keep them floating long enough for the gunners to get down there and force a fair catch, who cares if it's only going 42.7 yards?

Gross and net average usually go together. In 2017 the punter with the best net average also had the best gross average. Maybe Cooke is the exception, but I doubt it. And if a stellar net average was the basis for the pick, it would have been in TC's response to the question of why did he draft a punter, or at least made a point of by Oehser.

Glad we drafted a punter late but didnt know much about this guy. Looks like the right pick and he looks a beast, a number of different kicks, the guy is huge, a hard hitter, accurate, and a pretty big leg. Was the deepest punter class in history imo and I think we got a good one out of it

I remember when the Jags used to always get it wrong. Those days appear to be far behind them. Good Job Jags!

I missed the Logan Cooke hit. Can someone capture the play on a video and post a link to it?

I threw in the towel after the first half but sad I missed this. The punter got jacked. Love it.

I saw nothing wrong with that hit.

It looked like he led with the shoulder.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Should give that kid a shot at LB or SS at some point. LOL.

He hits harder than Reggie Nelson ever did.

Was the penalty for the celebration or the hit?

The Eraser. The only thing he erased was the lead.

I saw nothing wrong with that hit.

It looked like he led with the shoulder.

He did lower his head prior to contact. That may or may not have been the initial point of contact, but he drew attention because he did willingly deliver the shoulder to the opponent's head area. I think the NFL is going call ANY direct, deliberate contact made above the shoulder pads as TARGETING.

The refs correctly penalized the play. They may have muffed the appropriate penalty call. This was a targeting penalty all the way. Additionally, the punter should have drawn a second personal foul for taunting amid the opponent's bench.

Cooke should have stayed upright and wrapped the ball carrier up with his arms.
