It sure is, and while I don't subscribe to it as my primary argument for supporting the 2nd amendment, it certainly rings true as a deterrent to keep government honest. Let's just use the theoretical that a cabal within the U.S. government did want to seize control. How many in the ranks would choose dissension from government mandate knowing there is no means of defense for their families once that decision is made? Kim Jong Un would not be in control if the people he subjugated had the means to actively resist. 

But we are not a populace of enslaved cult worshipers. We live in a vibrant and open society where government can be openly criticized, questioned, and replaced. That spirit is actively embraced by those in uniform and reinforced by the 2nd amendment. Using them as tools of revolution is pure folly.
