Jimmy G and why the Jaguars passed

#1

A Jaguars scout said we passed on Jimmy G in part because his release was "too quick."

Come on, guys. There's no such thing...

This is just plumb silly. Jimmy is on his way to being a very good QB with Kyle Shannahan. Their offense moves real smooth with Jimmy.

Kap can't hold Jimmy's jock strap.

It almost sounds made-up. I've never heard of that being a problem in any way.

Exactly.

I hope we don't have a scout that actually said this.

I think we passed on him because he may contract aids from dating porn stars

I predict jimmyG and Deshawn Watson will not be as good this year.

I can only hope this means he throws before realizing a DB is breaking on the route, and throws risky passes, or something like that. Regardless, this is not even a direct quote, so 'this one guy said that this other guy told him blobbedy bloop' has no weight on my opinion of our scouting department.

Apparently it's a real thing.
Now this is Jim Harbaugh (from a niners blog)
Edholm asked Harbaugh about Garoppolo's quick release, which Edholm said is considered his best skills:
Quote:"Quick release, yes, but sometimes it's too quick," Harbaugh said. "You want to see him go through [the] whole throwing motion.
"But he can do it. He picks it up quickly. He's got natural skill, and it's obvious when you watch him."

Hey, the quick release will help reduce his exposure time!
When you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before.

You might be onto something. That is, it's not a comment about how quick his actual release is, but a comment that he tends to throw to soon. One thing they say they like about Bortles is his ability to extend plays so they can develop.

Hope for his sake that passing is the only thing he does prematurely.

I think his accuracy is too high.

Out of morbid curiosity I read the comments section. Yep, there was that one stubborn goomba wearing teal glasses getting carved up like our secondary in the niners game. You have to give him a high grade for allegiance, but sometimes quiet discretion is the better road.

I think his ego is out of control and will be his downfall

He needs to watch Bortles to learn how to put more wobble on his deep passes.

Makes no sense to make a statement like that. It's easier to say "We preferred Blake's size and mobility over the majority of that year's QB class and we had every intention of sitting him during his rookie year. Why would we invest in another QB when the roster was depleted in 2014 at virtually every major skill position on the team? Especially in the 2ND RD?".

Verdict is still out on Garoppolo too. He may or may not turn out to be a legitimate franchise QB for the 49ERS. The fact that he sat as long as he did as a Patriot helps him though. And Kyle does know how to engineer an offense (except when they have a lead, he totally [BLEEP] that up on the biggest stages).

But all in all. Caldwell appears to have made the right decision that year at QB. Manziel is done with the NFL. Bridgewater couldn't stay healthy and has already moved on from the Vikings. Derek Carr didn't live up to expectations last year. And ultimately his future may not be with the Raiders given Jon Gruden's history of impatience in Tampa Bay with the QB position.

As long as Blake handles his business like he did last year he'll continue to prove this team right in it's evaluation and trust they have in him.
