What if Westbrook is the best WR

#1

So I was thinking... Dede Westbrook was a Biletnikoff winner that was first round talent that slip due to off the field concerns. Then he played very well during the preseason last year before his injury. He even still had a pretty solid rookie campaign. Fast forward to this offseason, he’s still looking good in camp and  looked even better in game action. Maybe he could be our star receiver?

I wouldn’t be shocked. Talent isn’t an issue. Last years injury certainly caused a bit of a set back in his development. Let’s see if he can put it all together this year.

He will never get the stats in our offense to be considered the best and that is A Okay. Honestly though, Keelan Cole might be better. But I do like our two guys

Oh, I've thought of him as our most talented at that position but the great thing is how competitive they've made it. That environment will push everyone to be better.

I think Dede is hands down our best WR. I’m hoping Chark turns in to our second best.

As a fellow Jaguar fan I disagree with you my man but truly respect your opinion on it. Imo I think it's Keelan Cole this year and then DJ chark will be the no one receiving next year moving forward based on him being the complete package and Keenan McCardell too legit as a wide receiver coach.

We're so deep and solid in that position that, barring injury, I don't think we'll see any of the WRs breakout very far from the rest.

I cant wait to see Westbrook and Chark on the field at same time and see what Hackett draws up. Both are 4.3 guys! Insane speed to have out there!

He’s very good.

Somewhat limited in skill set by stature, but he’ll be a key player. Best receiver? Maybe, maybe not. Doesn’t matter to me. Hackett is hip to use his guys differently from week to week, and I’m sure DeDe will have his number called when he’s deemed a proper mismatch. I’m excited about seeing how this whole receiving corps is utilized against defenses that key on the run Game. So much speed to defend.
I hope they let him return some punts too.

+1.

This and so much this.  Give me 5 good receivers fighting to be the man.  Not only does it push them against each other, but the defense is clueless about who will get the ball.

I'm not ruling out Cole just yet. He was "the best WR in Divison II football" when the Jaguars signed him as a UDFA, so I keep thinking he might be the best guy out there. I believe he fell in part because of that 4.6 he ran (he'd be a fourth or fifth round pick if he ran a 4.4), but as the board keeps pointing out, you can see on the field that he plays so much faster.

Moncrief has similar speed, or at least he did coming out of college.

It's certainly debating whether or "best" WR is Cole, Westbrook or Chark. We haven't seen enough out of Moncrief to include him in the conversation as of yet, but one thing I think we can agree on is...

...it ain't Lee.

Precise routes and being there when the ball is there will negate speed.  As long as Lee catches the ball which at times was an issue early last year then I want him on the field.

Gawd I love this receiving corps potential from top to bottom.

I lover how people think so highly of Westbrook when he has done nothing. You guys used to say similar things about Greene lol.

Cole and Chark will be the best 2.

I don't care who turns out to be the best receiver. I just want results, no matter which player it is.

Makes fun of people for thinking highly of Westbrook, stating he has done nothing.
Then presumes to state Chark, who also has done nothing, will be one of the best 2. /Logic

I know Lee is mediocre at best.
Westbrook did nothing in his first year.
Chark was a second round pick and has been playing good on training camp. He has a much better chance than Westbrook but I guess you are not smart enough to figure that out. Besides being the second best WR in this team is not saying much.

Westbrook seems to be developing quite a following.

A few thoughts of caution:

1. Dede does not size up well enough to play as a number one or number two receiver. You can try it, but it will be a disappointment.

2. #1 and #2 WRs must have speed, hands, and agility, but they must have a decent amount of girth. You have to have the kind of body type that allows you to power THROUGH the defender assigned to cover you as you will rarely be able to side-step your way around him.

3. Westbrook compares to Desmond Howard or perhaps Peter Warrick. Neither player ever made it as a WR in the NFL relating to an inability to handle big NFL DBs, who were just as fast, and much more powerful than what they played against in college. They couldn't get off the bump.

4. Small WRs coming out of college almost universally fail due to not having the physical attributes needed. Unfortunately, teams still draft them as return specialists without providing scope of their limitations.

You see it once, you see it a thousand times.

You draft a guy to return punts and kicks and the first thing he does is try to get out of returning punts and kicks.

College fans are a dime a dozen. They all can't understand why a guy that torched defenses back in college isn't give a fair shake in the pros. The answer is easy and never changes, they don't play enough bump and run in college.

Every NFL team has a pair of corner backs bigger and more powerful than a Dede Westbrook, and they possess the speed to run circles around him.

You mean like 5'11 180lbs Antonio Brown?
