The question is, did he actually want this reaction?  I don't know enough about the man to speculate whether or not he's attempting to attract racist voters to his fold or not, but it's an idiotic thing to say if he did it casually, and it's a despicable thing if he did it strategically.

The dog whistle take is stupid. His opponent is black and he is white. What more does he need to do to attract white racists. Really, he had nothing to gain by using that word. The reality is this is just another exemplification of how some on the right are hilariously tone deaf and continue to present horrible optics.
