Regarding the first part in bold, yes some people do get "offended" way too easily in today's society.  I put it in quotes because some things are twisted to make it appear offensive even though that wasn't the intent.  I believe that was the case in this "incident" (non-story).

Regarding the second part in bold, DeSantis did not associate his opponent with a monkey with his statement.  The phrase "monkey it up" is a nice way of saying not to [BLEEP] (mess) it up without using profanity and was directed or associated with the voters of Florida not his opponent.

I agree that people are easily offended in today's world. No arguments from me there. With that said. DeSantis HAS to know better than that. He just HAS to. That was a very poor choice of words and he could have simply avoided all of this drama by saying "Don't mess it up" or "Don't screw it up". Instead of throwing the word Monkey in there. He could have used SNAFU or FUBAR. He's a Navy guy. He should know that one.

Whether he's truly racist or not doesn't matter at this point though. It's all about public perception. And now he's opened himself up to a bigger microscope of scrutiny.

And by using that one word, even if it was about Floridians voting or harmless in his views or in other's views, he still used it in a way that can can be taken and ran with in a negative light since his opponent is black.

He just gave the left a wide open lane to light his [BLEEP] up in the media. At this point I am led to believe it was intentional.
