Dante Fowler's Future

#81

At the end of the day, this is a good problem to have.

Not too long ago we were counting on scrubs/washed-up vets and wondering if they can miraculously be a 5-sack/season guy

That was a big play but it was still only one play very early in the season... who knows if he even stays healthy. Let's not get carried away it's only Week 2.
No pain, no gain.

You guys are so fickle! Last season, Calais Campbell seemed to be untouchable. The fans thought he was the greatest thing on earth. In the offseason, Fowler gets in trouble and then gets into the fight with Ngakoue and people want him gone. Now, Dante has a good game and people are ready to get rid of Calais Campbell and who ever else, in order to have the cap money to resign Fowler. You guys make my head hurt.

Or he'll just completely ignore every Fowler thread/topic for a little bit now.

Why would I ignore a topic? He made a great play against a backup RT, awesome. He almost got a pressure on the first Hogan TD too. Good start, now continue by racking up those pressures and not just making that one splash play every other game and we'll see if he's made real growth.

The Jags need to keep him if he continues to play at this level. Would rather them let a vet or two walk instead of releasing a young player with huge upside.

And you still have to make it a back-handed compliment....

No surprise.

It's way to early to say who we keep and who gets cut.  We know we cant keep everyone.  We have a whole season to play and then we can make a decision.  A lot of things can change between now and season end

Just a heads up everyone. Fact is the team is pretty much in the negative money next year. So expect Dareus, Church, and Fowler to be gone. With Bryan, Harrison filling the voids. Campbell will probably play more DT if I have to guess but we will see. I don't think the front office will be willing to cut Campbell which would net Jags 11.5 million next year with 3 million dead cap to Campbell to resign Fowler at 12m + who has has plenty of none football issues. But we will see

He has a few key plays against the Pats but he is pretty inconsistent. Right now he is decent depth but I wouldn’t be ready to break the bank for him.

The situation will clear itself up. Just let it play out.
For the Jags FO, it's great to have this kind of problem.

I'm not gonna lie. I feel like most of his success is from that, but his performance yesterday was all him. He worked that OL.

He is a good player, but the Jags shouldn't break the bank to keep him. If Fowler wants to be greedy, then he's probably gone. It's up to him.

he shows up in big games more than Ngaouke, if we're being honest.

If we're being honest, he's not half as good as Nagkoue.

Didn't Yan have a sack fumble that was scooped and scored against Pitt in the playoffs?

Nah. he's more than half as good. Ngaouke hasn't done much this year so far. Fowler's first game he gets a strip sack and recovery on the GOAT. Three sacks on the GOAT in 2 games. Crown him.

Crown him as what?

He's not as good as Yan. It's not even debatable.

You said “crown him.”

Crown him as what? One of the better over drafted backup pass rushers around?

'Crown Him' as in the dude shows up for 'big' games. Don't read too much in it.

So we should crown him as a guy who shows up once or twice a year?

Yan always shows up. He has a strip sack in the Pitt playoff game. He consistently gets pressure on the QB. He had 5 pressures in week 1 and had more against the Pats. It's not always about sacks.
