The "A Football Life" episode featuring Jimmy and Keenan was on again the other day. If you haven't seen it, you should. Even though I hated the Jags back then, watching that
show is very nostalgic. Those '96 - 2000 Jag teams were really good. There is something infectious about a new team finding success - lots of enthusiasm.

But it made me think: Why didn't Barlow ever seem to produce? I used to fear him, he seemed so fast. But looking back at this career he barely made any catches.
His career high was 16 grabs in 1999. Does anyone one who followed the Jags closer have any theories on why he had so few receptions? Like I said, he appeared
fast. Did he not have good hands?

Any how, it appears he has found a good spot in coaching. He took VA State to a 10-0 record this last season. Good for him.

It wasn’t a passing league back then first and foremost.
He also was just a return specialist for us really.

I’m the person that can help you with this question bc I was the biggest fan back in the 90s.

With Jimmy, Keenan, we didn’t really need a slot WR. Barlow was straight line speed, fast. He was a punt returner. We use to chant “Reggie..Reggie “

I remember him dropping some big 3rd downs too. But Barlow was always going to be a 4th WR or a 5th.

Barlow was barely ever on the field as a WR. Willie Jackson was the 3rd WR for a bit...Pete Mitchell was a favorite target of Brunell too...

Barlow couldn't run routes, he never got separation.

Coughlin didn't put much on his third wideout. Brunell's first option was Jimmy, his second option was Keenan, and most of the time his third option was to look back at Jimmy again. Barlow was a solid special teams player who would occasionally catch a pass. After he left, Alvis Whitted took the role and became a solid special teamer who would occasionally drop a pass.

He was born too early. He would have fit in well this past decade.
