Judges, like the military, give up certain rights while they serve. Public behavior like this destroys the credibility of an impartial judiciary and gives case losers ammunition for wasteful appeals.

The judge admitted they are held to a higher standard- and they are. Everyone appointed to or voted into a position of influence where neutrality is necessary gives up their "right" to have a personal opinion publicly. 

Their personal opinions belong behind closed doors.

I don’t think expressing political opinions online, like those he said, are a big deal. You can still do your job and not agree with politicians. He can’t use them to when making decisions in a courtroom, however, and that’s when he messed up. He’s dumb.

So often it seems just the opposite is true; the greater an individual's education and/or rank, the greater the sense of entitlement and general feeling that rules and decorum do not apply to his/her actions.

Judges are lawyers who kissed the right politicians butt. It goes without saying that every judge likely sides with the political party of the guy who appointed him. Our justice system is, and has been broken for a long time.

They aren't even all lawyers. In more rural, remote areas it's not uncommon for the county judge to be a friend of the county commissioner with zero legal training. They exist basically to find in favor of the police department so that revenue keeps rolling in.
