All year the media hyped up Deshaun Watson as the best player in college football and a likely top pick in the draft. Then Lamar Jackson showed everyone who paid attention to Louisville he might be better than Watson. Now he is a Heisman Trophy favorite. Both players have been compared to Michael Vick because they are dual threats. It is not a coincidence that their teams are ranked in the top five.

 

But wait, there's more. Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer is being ranked higher than Watson by a few NFL scouts. He is overshadowed by Watson and Jackson partly because his team sucks but some people seem to be excited about his NFL potential.

 

I know Jackson is still a year away from being drafted, but can't imagine him being a one-year wonder. He most likely will improve his draft stock during his third season at Louisville. Making that assumption, who do you think the best college football quarterback is as a draft prospect?

I think it has to go Kizer, Kaaya, then Watson. I, personally, have Mitch Trubinsky on the outside looking in. The kid can absolutely ball. 6'3" 220lbs. Had offers from all the big schools like Alabama and Ohio State, but he chose UNC. Really athletic, cannon of an arm, and precision accuracy. He plays mistake-free football. 133 for 175, 76%, 1711 yards, 13 TDs, 0 INTs. Comparing college QBs with at least 100 pass attempts, he's at the very top or in the top 5 in almost every category: QB rating, pass efficiency, td:int ratio, completion percentage, yards, etc.

No, he wasn't. A lot of draft guys have Kaaya with a first round grade. I don't get it, but they do. Like Watson, I think his stock is falling though.

While he didn't have the greatest game this past weekend, playing in a Hurricane might have had something to do with that, I like the Trubisky kid from UNC. I think he has more tools at his disposal than a lot of other QBs right now in the NCAA field.

I think most understand that has more to do with an extremely weak QB class than Kaaya being anything special as a college QB.

 

Though I will say, the thread opening post is a bit misleading.  It begins with the title of who's the best college QB, then later ends by adding the caveat "as a draft prospect."

Not exactly. The rule is three years after high school, so he could have declared last year and skipped Florida altogether. But nobody would have wanted a guy who only played spot duty for two seasons.
