What team is going to "win" the Jimmy Garoppolo/Josh McDaniel's sweepstakes?

#1

I think this subject will pick up some steam as the year goes along, I believe Garoppolo is a free agent at the end of the year, given the fact that he's played well (albeit in limited action), there will definitely be multiple teams that have interest (Brock Osweiler's situation comes to mind). Josh McDaniel's also figures to be hot commodity this off-season, it would make sense to pair the two together considering Jimmy G has has success in McDaniel's system. I was thinking about this earlier this morning, there are 3 teams that come to mind, two of which are in the AFC East.

1. Buffalo Bills- Rex Ryan will likely get fired and Tyrod Taylor is clearly not the answer there, I can see the Pegula's making a "splash" this off-season by bringing in both McDaniel's and Jimmy G, that roster is pretty talented outside of the QB position. They can use another WR to pair with oft-injured Sammy Watkins, this scenario makes sense.

2. New York Jets- the Jets are in similar situation, the roster is pretty talented outside of the QB position, they also have a "make a splash" in the off-season kind of owner in Woody Johnson. Ryan Fitzpatrick is obviously not the answer long term, and if the Jets don't make the playoffs this year I think they'd be willing ot move on from Todd Bowles.

3. Washington Redskins- you can literally copy and paste everything I wrote for the Bills & Jets here, all of these teams are in similar situations, they have rosters that are ready to "compete", but likely don't have long-term solutions at QB. They have owners (especially New York and Washington) that like to make "splashes", all of these head coaches (especially if they don't make the playoffs this season) will be on the hot-seat.

4. Chicago Bears- John Fox is a mediocre coach, Jay Cutler won't be in Chicago next year, it's possible the Bears draft a QB high in the draft given the fact that they'll likely have a top 5 draft pick, but if they don't see "value" in taking a QB that high, a McDaniel's/Garoppolo pairing in the "Windy City" makes sense.

I'm not so sure the Pats let McDaniels leave town. Think he is the heir to the thrown there

Jimmy G is going to crash and burn elsewhere.

Jimmy is just a game manager thats what the scheme is all about without brady. Idk who gets him though and i dont think it really matters.

Titans are the most likely candidate for McDaniels.

^This. People forget way to fast in the nfl. It's a miracle the broncos were even competitive as quick as they were with the damage he did.

The Patriots are gonna have to keep another QB on the roster sooner or later. Brady may be the GOAT and still playing very well despite being 39 years old....but father time is undefeated.

Jimmy was taken in the same draft as Bortles IIRC. So he should be under contract for another year after this one.

Reminds me of the Cassell trade. I could see some team like New Orleans throwing a first at NE for Brissett when Brees retires or gets cut this year or next

Yeah, Jimmy has another year on his contract so he won't be a FA till 2018.

Nothing will happen. I think Brady and Belichick will retire by 2019. Garopolo and McDaniels will take over the reigns.
