Defensive Rankings

#1

Thought I'd open this up for discussion. This is such a mixed bag, yardage wise we're very much improved. Points wise, not so much.

Total: 8th (311 yds/game)

Pass: 7th (201.7 yds/game)

Run: 20th (109.7 yds/game)

Points: 25th (28 ppg)

For reference, Seattle is allowing 9 ppg and NO is allowing 33.7. Denver, last year allowed 18.5 per game, Seattle 17.3.

I think it is improved, but the ranking may be off a bit because of the whoopin in the second game. Better than listed? I would say it gets better as the season moves forward. Oddly enough, the offense has now become the main worry.

It's a shame points off turnovers count against a defense.  It would be interesting where we'd rank without all the points off offensive turnovers.

That being said... re: the Ravens, offense puts you up, you have to hold.

If offense puts you up by just one point, you let them have zero.

Points per game is the one that matters and that's not good enough. I hope it gets better as the year goes on.

I'd say only things like a pick 6 or a fumble recovery shouldn't count against a defense. If it's an INT and the defense gets on the field, then they're responsible to stop them.
