This is getting out of hand, and I'm glad that the Navy as well as the rest of the military is finally taking care of it.  Armed Forces personnel are required to stand, face the flag or the music during the National Anthem regardless of whether they are in or out of uniform.  Failing to do so is a violation of "military law" (the UCMJ).  Both are being disciplined with one probably ruining her career for good.

 

It's not known what kind of action was taken with the first sailor, but the second one allegedly lost her clearance and could possibly face further consequences.  You can't be an Intelligence Specialist without a clearance.

They presumably knew the consequences before choosing to break military code by exercising their First Amendment rights. If they didn't know the consequences, then they didn't do their homework. Either way, it's on them.

I worked out at the Mayport Naval Base and recall stopping on a dime when they'd play the National Anthem in the morning.  There were times when I was just about to pull the door open to walk in (and not be late) but once you hear the Anthem initiated on the speakers, it was better to be late than to be in motion during that period.

I can post coverup cases all day long friend. They are factual, they did happen, and it's objective evidence of having misguided priorities.

In the future I will share some of our footage from the Charlotte protests. The ignorance level is high - in case you were wondering.


Our favorite is 2 college girls from Minnesota who were downtown. When we asked them (innocently, as if unaware) what this was all about- we got 1 girl saying the repeated killing of innocent black people by white police. My guy tells her that the cop was black and the victim was proven to have a loaded gun ( not true yet, but we were having some fun ) She then says well "It does happen sometimes". My guy then probes "well then why here in Charlotte? To which she says, "to bring awareness to the issue". And he says but "it has never happened in Charlotte- so why here?" And she says something dumb like the news said it was an innocent guy shot by a white cop...


So then my guy probes the next girl, who says something equally stupid. So my dude pretends to stop the interview - and coaches her on something good to say for the camera. I point the camera at both of them as he basically tells her what to say into the mic: "We are protesting inequality demonstrated worldwide against the less fortunate and also minorities and women. AND SHE SAYS EXACTLY THAT FOR US.


People will do anything to be on TV.

Two different things.  From early on in basic training basic etiquette is taught regarding what any service member is supposed to do not only during the National Anthem, but also when Colors are presented.  It is a basic general order.  The sailors in these two cases deliberately failed to follow a basic general order and are suffering the consequences.

 

The military doesn't run on social media, and when in uniform a service member is not allowed to "protest".  Making it public while in uniform is why the one girl lost her security clearance and probably has ruined her career.

#1.  Any active military person that thought protesting The National Anthem was a good idea displays ignorance beyond belief.

#2.  The military has done more to promote racial harmony than any other institution in America.  Sports being a close second.

#3.  The Tailhook Scandal occurred in 1993 and brought to light a serious wrong.  The military has been working to correct past mistakes ever since.  Do incidence still occur?  Yes.  Yet, I can point the same issues occurring on college campuses post for post and I see more action to correct the wrong from our military branches than academia.

If the two sailors had genuinely not looked into the consequences, or even stopped to consider that their actions would result in them, then yes, clearly not everything is functioning up there as it should.

 

If they knew what they were in for by making that display and chose to do so anyway, then I respect them and their decision, even if we both know that their careers are over. They'll most likely be given "go away" honorable discharges to avoid drawing the Navy any further into this than they are already.

You lose!  The mental midget was in UNIFORM!  I did not tie just anyone protesting to that term.  Maybe your response says more about you than me?  

 

For the record, while I disagree with these protest on a personal level I agree with their right to do so as I have stated on previous occasions.
