SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Following a series of sweeping actions to expand access to voting in recent years, a California lawmaker is pushing to require voters to cast a ballot in future elections.

Levine’s effort, Assembly Bill 2070, would require every Californian who registers to vote to “cast a ballot, marked or unmarked in whole or in part, at every election held within the territory within which the person resides.”

I think that would backfire on them. It would drive people to become unregistered or never register to keep from having to vote in all the local elections.

There are a few lessons that are the same between the 2008 election that Obama won and the 2016 election that Trump won.
One of these is turnout.
The USA has had pretty low turnout.
But we have no idea what those people who haven't usually been voting actually want.
A bunch of people who usually don't vote turned out to vote for Obama. Then a lot of people who usually don't vote turned out to vote for Trump.
