But Caldwell and Marrone are not acting like they have to win to keep their jobs.  They're acting like they have 2 years to get something done, not 1.  All this clearing out players and building cap space are not the actions you would expect from a lame duck GM and HC.

Agreed.  They are acting like they have 5 years to rebuild this thing they are tearing down.... yet they only have 2 years left on their deals.  If they are 4-12 or 5-11 this year, do you really think Khan extends them?  His options after another bad season would be:  a) blow it up; b) extend them, or c) have them go into Year 2 of a complete rebuild on lame duck contracts.  "a" seems like the most logical choice to me if things go poorly.
