Postgame thoughts and game ball

#1

GREAT game and win, always feels good. Here are some of my observations and thoughts:

- We played a hell of a game and the playcalling was on point - at least offensively.
- Offensive line held their own very well, barring a couple of plays.
- Minshew with an excellent and efficient performance 19/20 for 173yds and 3 TDs.
- Chark, Shenault, and Cole proving they can be a top-tier WR corps.
- Robinson at RB showed excellent elusiveness, speed, blocking, vision, shedding tackles, and decisiveness - something that we missed while LF was here.
- * CJ Henderson with a GREAT game. Had an INT, sealed the game with the pass deflection and made many solid tackles.
- Myles Jack had a solid performance imo. He looks more natural on the outside. Also great composure avoiding a penalty against Campbell.
- Defensive playcalling should be a lot better than the bend-dont-break scheme. Would like to generate more pressure with the front 4.

My game ball would go to CJ Henderson - although Jay Gruden and Minshew also deserve it.

What are your thoughts and who gets the game ball?

Game balls to Minshew, Henderson, and Gruden.

And a game ball to the defensive line, who stopped the run today.

Nice summary. There were several things which should encourage our fans including:

Minshew is the real deal. He is more than capable of being this team's franchise q.b. for several years. His enthusiasm is contagious and his story makes him fun to pull for.

The young talent on the team is indisputable. Henderson and Robinson stood out today, but other rookies like Shennault, Chaisson, Johnson and Hamilton can also become very good. That leaves another 10 rookies from which at least 2 or 3 will eventually become starters.

These guys believe in themselves and will play hard every week regardless of the outcome. The malcontents will not be missed.

Despite these positives, there were also strong indicators that it will take this team at least one more season to seriously compete for the post-season. These include:

The defense made some big plays, but they will continue to show growing pains. In addition to all the youth, they also need more talent in the secondary to go along with Henderson.

The offensive line came out like gangbusters, but what happened in the 2nd half? They need to become more consistent for Minshew to continue his success. I expect the team to draft a left tackle with one of their top 2 picks next year.

The tight end position will again be a weakness. Minshew would benefit greatly by having a reliable safety valve at this position.
