What's first pick worth if we trade it?

#1

No, not the price of the soul of the franchise making the Faustian Bargain with Urban Meyer.

What is the 1st pick, effectively Trevor Lawrence, worth in trade? We've seen this dropped in a few other threads, so I thought I'd give us a space to argue about it.

And "nothing" is already taken, we know most people won't trade him for anything at this point, but for the sake of discussion...what do you want back?

For me, I'd accept the following from the Jets:

3 firsts (this year's 2, and the next two drafts), this year's 2, next year's 3, Mekhi Becton, and Marcus Maye.

Some similar package from other team would be ok, but the 3 might be a 2 depending how low it might be.

I think you should keep in mind that if TL is as good as we think, a future first round pick could fall way down the draft order.

True, but it's probably not next year, and potentially still a pick between 10 and 20 the 3rd year.

So what kind of package do you put together Marty?

My personal view is a trade just won’t happen. You don’t give it up, I don’t think any other QB is worth it. Don’t take the risk and just take TLaw. I understand that is still a risk as he’s an unknown in the NFL but I think it’s just not worth it. Especially as this team has been searching for so long for that leader unsuccessfully.

That being said, I would say it’s worth a record breaking amount. I would only be looking at teams where we would be getting picks likely to be in the top 15 in round one for maybe the next few years. Jets is the obvious team. I would think it would take both of their first rounders this year, 1st rounder next year and then various 2nd and 3rd round picks, with an addition of a player of need.

I think we will be fielding offers potentially from;
Jets
Patriots
Panthers

We have never had a great QB and we finally get a chance to get one of the best QB prospects ever an we are discussing trading back. Let's just stay at 1 and draft one of the best QB prospects ever and get our QB

It would be the biggest disaster of all time to not take Trevor Lawrence. No amount of medicore picks are worth the #1 overall. And most of those mediocre picks (that weren't complete busts) would be gone in a couple years do to salary cap constraints.

The fact that Trevor could be the next Payton Manning (or top 5 QB in the league for the next 15+ years, I would not make the trade.  All OSU QBs have been busts in the NFL and there is too much risk with the other 2 (Wilson and Lance).

OK, so in response to the question, What is it worth (and "nothing" not being an option), I would say All of the Jets 1st round picks as long as Trevor Lawrence is playing in the NFL.  Such condition shall not be less than 5 first round picks in the event Trevor suffers a career ending injury prior to his 5th year.  Need to also add language to the contract that the Jets are prohibited from trading out of the 1st round as long as this trade agreement is in effect.

Only trade i'd consider (and i'd probably still not take it tbh)

Jets give us:
their 2nd overall pick this year
their other 1st this year
2nd this year
1st next year
Mecki Becton

And the only way i'm doing this aswell is if we can throw the 2nd overall pick at houston for Watson, let them fail with fields.

Basically, you get a franchise QB anyway, a franchise LT, still have 2 first round picks this year and double picks for the next year along with 3 2nds this year etc. But if we couldn't get Watson i'd pass, because the drop off to me from Lawrence to the other QBs in this draft is abysmal.

Anytime you have a potential great qb on a rookie contract, you are in great shape.

If I absolutely HAD to do it, I would ask for something like all the other posters have asked for- both 1st round picks this year, this year's 2nd round pick, next year's first round pick, and a first the year after that.

But I would make sure I prepared the fans for it, because I get the strong feeling this fanbase has its heart set on Trevor Lawrence.

See, even if TL is only marginally better than JF, TL would sell boatloads of tickets, corporate suites, sponsorships, etc.  TL is the perfect symbol for the re-boot of this franchise.

This was pretty creative to land Watson and alleviate the risk of drafting an unproven risk with regard to Fields, Wilson, or Lance.  I kind of like this thinking out the box concept.

You should be an NBA GM --- they always make 3 or 4 team trades.

So, you think I went overboard with wanting the the Jets 1st round pick for the next 20 years?  Even that deal would suck if Trevor goes on to win 5 super bowls with the Jets.

Can April get here already before we talk ourselves into making a monumental mistake?

We aren't doing anything but arguing, as usual. So, what would you Take for Trevor?

I would trade Trevor to the Patriots for their 6 super bowls, then trade for Tom Brady, and then trade Tom back to New England for Trevor and 3 years of draft picks.

A decade of first round and second round picks otherwise I’m not even listening. That’s right you give me your next two picks for the next 10 years and it’s something to think about.

10 years of first-round picks + Franchise QB that's under 30.

Just to play along, I'd want all their draft picks for the next 10 years. Then the first round picks from 2032 and 2033.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.
