Of course it includes the obligatory Nazi reference.

Virginia Heffernan: What can you do about the Trumpites next door? | Associated Press | bozemandailychronicle.com

Virginia Heffernan: What can you do about the Trumpites next door?

Oh, heck no. The Trumpites next door to our pandemic getaway, who seem as devoted to the ex-president as you can get without being Q fans, just plowed our driveway without being asked and did a great job.

How am I going to resist demands for unity in the face of this act of aggressive niceness?

Of course, on some level, I realize I owe them thanks — and, man, it really looks like the guy back-dragged the driveway like a pro — but how much thanks?

These neighbors are staunch partisans of blue lives, and there aren’t a lot of anything other than white lives in neighborhood.

This is also kind of weird. Back in the city, people don’t sweep other people’s walkways for nothing.

Maybe it’s like what Eddie Murphy discovered in that old “Saturday Night Live” sketch “White Like Me.” He goes undercover in white makeup and finds that when white people are among their own, they pop free champagne and live the high life. As Murphy puts it: “Slowly I began to realize that when white people are alone, they give things to each other. For free.”

Hezbollah, the Shiite Islamist political party in Lebanon, also gives things away for free. The favors Hezbollah does for people in the cities Tyre and Sidon probably don’t involve snowplows, but, like other mafias, Hezbollah tends to its own — the Shiite sick, elderly and hungry. They offer protection and hospitality and win loyalty that way. And they also demand devotion to their brutal, us-versus-them anti-Sunni cause. Some of us are family, the favors say; the rest are infidels...

You need to get out some.  There are plenty of people like that in North Florida.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.

My neighbor is far left, I’m far right.   We’re somehow cool with each other.  She’s also a client.  So I ended up doing “extra work”.  Mainly because what I did made the place look better since it looked like [BLEEP], scratch that; I did it not only because it looked like [BLEEP], but why did this guy I can’t agree with do something nice at no charge.  I’m not sure if I’m right or wrong  or nice or not since my intention wasn’t.  [BLEEP]... the more I think about it.. she duped me into free services!!!! Damn it!!! Democrats trying and successfully getting EVERYTHING for free.   Just had to talk it out to myself I guess.  Thanks guys!

People need to just chill out on this party affiliation stuff. I have friends that are far right conservatives and friends that are far left liberals and we rarely if ever, talk politics. I just judge people on how nice they are to me and my family. I don't care what they believe in.

So this isn’t an angel v demon thing?  That’s a relief.  But why do the left act like it is?

It works both sides dude.

People on this very board call liberals communists. (Cue up someone coming in with “but they are”.)

Up until 4 years ago, politics never even came up in any of my conversations with friends. I couldn’t care less what someone’s political affiliation is but like OLine said, how you treat others is what I look at.

Everyone is still on high alert right now and I’m hoping things cool down over the next year or so.

You literally said liberals shouldn’t be allowed to procreate. You’re just as bad as the liberals calling conservatives nazis.

Kidding aside, you’re absolute right.  It does go both ways.  I’m guilty at times.  Or always.  Whatever, it’s semantics or something.  But, yeah 2 way street.

Because it's replaced religion in their lives, exchanging the worship of one diety for another.

I've seen just as many right wingers do the same thing. If you can't see that it's half a dozen one side and six of the other, then you are completely biased. Being an Independent, I see how both sides act and it's very equal and very disturbing.

I know I sound like I come off as a Democrat here, although I’d never trade God for politics, I’ve noticed I’ve put politics higher than maybe I should lately.  Said some nasty things.  After all, right is right and wrong is wrong in each persons POV.  When one side or the other goes all in I suppose one or both can go on tilt.  Idk.  Just trying to figure these funny feelings out. Oh! Crap.   They’re working on me!   That’s part of their plan!!

The socialist movement was designed to be a religion. Carry on.

Idiocracy is a funny movie.  It was not meant to be taken literally. Advocating eugenics is a bad look, even for you.

So was Trumpism and it succeeded so well, it's followers didn't even see it coming or know that they are part of it.

No it wasn't. I mean socialism was literally designed to be a religious movement. The people creating it did that on purpose. Gramsci said, "Socialism is the religion that must overwhelm Christianity." He wrote papers on how to utilize the tools of mythology to create a more committed base. You are going to give Trump that kind of credit? Don't be dense.

Yep. It had a concept of original paradise, a fall, a sin or scapegoat in that fall, a powerful and prophetic vision, and a final paradise achieved after the struggle.  Every successful revolution or protest movement has a religious aspect and fervor to it.
