Let's Talk About- Political Edition

(06-23-2021, 10:17 PM)homebiscuit Wrote: Massachusetts' Brandeis University lists 'policeman,' 'congressman' on 'oppressive' language list | Fox News

"Policeman," "congressman" and even the gender-neutral descriptor "freshman" have been deemed "oppressive" at Massachusetts’ Brandeis University, a small, elite private school in Waltham, because they are "gender exclusive."

If there’s a campus barbershop, it shouldn’t be talking any "walk-in" appointments, as the term has been deemed "ableist."

Brandeis’ Prevention, Advocacy and Resource Center is described on the school’s website as a resource for students impacted by violence, sexual assault or stalking.

But you might say the PARC’s "oppressive language list" is "killing it" in the push for progressive limitations on speech – except you can’t, because "if someone is doing well, we don’t need to equate that to murder!"

Instead, say "Great job!" or "Awesome!"

As a rule of thumb, you shouldn’t say "rule of thumb."

"This expression comes from an old British law allowing men to beat their wives with sticks no wider than their thumb," PARC’s list explains.

Say "general rule" instead.

Even the woke language of yesteryear has become problematic.

The school suggests moving beyond the term "trigger warning," because it can be connected to violence, the same as calling someone who has experienced trauma a "victim" or "survivor."

"Picnic" is also taboo, according to the PARC.

"The term picnic is often associated with lynchings of Black people in the United States, during which White spectators were said to have watched while eating, referring to them as picnics or other terms involving racial slurs against Black people."

"Long time no see" and "no can do" are also out – because they "originate from stereotypes making fun of non-native English speakers, particularly applied to indigenous people and Asians."

The PARC also urges people to avoid talking about powwows or spirit animals, as those have been deemed culturally appropriative and their use in casual speech "erases" or "strips" the terms of their "significance."

Folks should also be wary of their regional dialects, because "you guys" is oppressive, but "y’all" is not.

Fox News reached out to several school officials, including the PARC director, but did not immediately receive a response.

This is what happens when no one has to worry about roving hordes of barbarians.

I don't think they should allow "general rule" either, because historically, most generals have been men.

Not to mention the obvious discrimination against the Navy which doesn't have generals. As a former sailor, I feel oppressed.

I don't think they should use "rule" since most Rulers have been men. Except those that measure length which men just use to brag. And they use math at which we all know women are bad.

Not to mention rulers are used to measure and define boundaries, such as gender, ability and countries.

I'm literally shaking as I type this.

Fitbit is going to have a fit over that. They will be releasing a statement full of woke language distancing themselves from this in 3..2..1...

This is an actual email I received from the credit union which carries the note for my truck loan. It’s such a naked attempt to use the woke language checklist that it looks like something out of The Onion.

“Digital inequity is a widespread problem that has been highlighted by the pandemic. Our elderly parents need to know how to use technology to book their doctor's appointments. Our children need their own personal computers to get the education they deserve. Each of us, including those in rural communities, needs reliable broadband to further our careers.

I’m excited to share a new initiative your team at xxxx is very passionate about. As a national, digital credit union, we feel a particular obligation to create a more inclusive digital world. That is why we are on a mission to create equitable digital access for everyone.

With our national and community partners, we are focusing on providing reliable broadband, digital literacy resources, and technology equipment to under-resourced communities. We do this through xxxx Foundation grants and actively volunteering for our partners' missions.

I invite you to learn more about our digital inclusion mission. I promise this isn't the last time you'll hear about this initiative. We'll find ways for our members to get involved alongside our employees, and we'll keep you updated on our progress.”

Interesting article/opinion piece. Link ETA: it won't let me copy and paste the link to that article. If you care to read it go to the link above and search "why the left is consumed with hate."

I typed in 'why the left hates women' into duckduckgo (I do not google) and the above article came up as an option. It's about why the left is all about hate in general. Not what I was looking for but I read it anyway. This is not the first article I've read that points to the 60s as the reason for our current state of affairs when it comes to the leftist/progressive push of their Marxist agenda but this one comes at it from a slightly different angle. it was enlightening.

I had to do a bit of "work" to find the op-ed that you are referring to.  My take is that the far left in general hates this country and wants to turn it into something else.  So-called "free stuff" isn't really free and many in the middle class and below are quickly finding that lesson out.  It's not the "tax the rich" or "tax corporations" that hurts people, it's the "silent taxes" that do it.  Prices for everything from gasoline to eggs and milk are going up and it hurts "the little guy" the most.

As the old saying goes... "nothing is free".

The push by the far left to dismantle capitalism and have open porous borders is taking this country down.  It's only a matter of time until the country goes in the like of Venezuela or Zimbabwe.  How much more money will we print?

I did a search for it on WSJ's website and it didn't come up. I had to go to Duck Duck Go to find it. It's behind a paywall, so I can't read it. However, I noticed the author is Shelby Steele. He's a really profound thinker. I wouldn't mind reading it. Can you copy and paste the text here?
