Also, this may or may not be related but Gardner cut his hair short. Maybe he knows something is up and he wants a new look for a new team, lol.

Unless beat-hard starts improving, you're going to be in deep doody if you move the shew.

The team needs to get to the heart of the matter with him - is he dissatisfied with his pay? does he believe that he can start for [insert team name here], and then are they willing to trade for him? If we trade him away, is he cool with starting at his current salary?

I let this play out. If he wins the backup job, and it sounds like he's practically a shew-in at this point (stop groaning), I offer him a handsome extension to keep him around. I'd much rather have a sharp kid at backup than a fifth rounder and the leftovers from our preseason tryouts.

If the kid plays lights out, and someone offers us a third? Well, that's a whole different story. Think we could talk Alex Smith out of retirement?
