Lincoln Project video equating fascist antifa goons with WWII troops

#21

Lucky is at least addressing the nugget of my point.
The video did two things that might offend: it compared today's protestors to yesterday's soldiers and it compared Trump to Hitler.
Are you offended by the first or by the second?
I am a bit offended myself about the soldiers but we have to remember that everyone and their mom wants to be compared to those guys. We should want people to aspire to be like them. It'd be a waste of time to get worked up over every time they are compared to a modern person.
But if you're offended for the second reason, you have to show that Trump's not comparable to Hitler. Lucky tried valiantly to show this, but not convincingly. The Chinese today may operate their economy like fascists, but they came to power in the absence of a free society and in the absence of free elections. Hitler and Mussolini both came to power in (mostly) free societies with free elections. Hitler had his goons set fire to the Reichstag to get an emergency declared. Trump was clearly hoping to do something very similar on January 6th. Have goons do it for plausible deniability, but the end is the same: overturn the Constitution through treachery and violence at the seat of power.

You literally compared Trump to Hitler.. HITLER!! A souless piece of trash that literally killed 6+ million jews.

Let me guess, next you'll liken the 6+million murders to Trump's millions of mean tweets. This is the road that you'll take next.. This is the hill you choose to metaphorically die on? This one? Seriously?

That aspect of Hitler's life has no comparison to Trump's life
Other aspects do, though.
Hitler came to power in 1933.  The Holocaust didn't start until 1938.

Oh so Hitler wasn't responsible for killing 6+ millilon jews.. Is that your narrative now?

I'm sure more than a few of the survivor's family members would LOVE to hear your story.. Why not go walk into a VFW on some Friday night, have a few beers and talk to them about it.. Just do us all a favor and take a before and after picture of your face before you go..  Most of us would love to see the after pics..

ANTIFA isn't doing the comparison, it's the traitorous MSM doing it. More nonsense from our resident jack [BLEEP].

I am only comparing Hitler's crime of ending the first German republic to Trump's crime of attempting to end democratic elections here.
I'm not saying that Trump is or will be similar to Hitler in any other way.
I could just as easily compare Trump to Hugo Chavez or Ferdinand Marcos - two other guys who won power through constitutional means and then overturned their constitution.

Instead of your CNN spoon fed Trump hate that you love to eat on a daily basis, why not explain to us what good the democratic party has done for this country..

I'll wait..

You missed my point again, Mikey. My point was that you should be able to look at that video and find the obvious flaws in reasoning within it. You should then question the motives or intelligence of those who would make such propaganda and try to pass it off as legitimate to the American people. If you could acknowledge that, maybe you could apply that to other areas of your life where you have been gaslit. Case in point: Trump is not Hitler. They were comparing him to Hitler WAY before January 6th, and I know for a fact that you had done so before that date as well, so let's not pretend this is isolated to the... wait for it... most tragic day in US history /sarcasm.

I'll admit it. Trump did something legitimately stupid when he tried to get congress to overturn the results of the election and urged Pence to head that up. It was a terrible abuse of his pulpit, but it was not unfounded. But this isn't the Weimar Republic. Congress did it's job and Trump left peacefully and officially went down as the worst tyrannical dictator of all time. Oh, and by the way, the reaction that followed from the media was just more gaslighting. Sure, there was an insurrection of sorts. Sure, some people wanted to stop congress. But it was less than a thousand people in a crowd of 500k. It's literally insane to lift up the .002% of people at that rally and use them as the face of the majority there protesting the shadiness that had taken place during the elections. Trump believe he lost unfairly, and so did his followers.

Even if you think all of the ballots cast were legit, you continue to completely ignore a nationally published story that confesses to a cabal of elites working in unison to oust Trump. They used their power to change laws, censor information, and create disparities in polling places that favored Biden... again... all documented. This completely undermined our elections in the US in an unprecedented manner and YOU DON'T CARE. Why? Because you had a preconceived notion that Trump was Hitler. Meanwhile, we get a puppet President that has all of Trumps flaws, but has the media on his side. The guy is inarticulate, brash, and says racist and sexist things on the regular (by progressive standards), but no one cares. The media, big pharm, big tech, Hollywood, scientific institutions, and even Wall Street are all towing the progressive line. There's zero integrity in our major institutions anymore, and that is by design. Again, do you even bother to ask yourself why? Nope. Because you, like so many others, don't know what fascism is, but you know the label was slapped on Republicans, so you go all-in without questioning it. Democrats are the ones slowly using the power of the state to put pressure on our national institutions to conform them to the "correct" ideology, and it's working. That's fascism.

You are an authority driven intellectual, Mike. You fail to understand why that's a problem. Hint: because in 2 years, if this madness continues to go unchecked, the stupidity in that video will be mainstream and you'll be drinking the Kool-Aid.

Bottom line, when you see a segment that is so overtly wrong, and you don't even question why he and others like him would create such a propaganda piece, you're probably gaslit. Wake up, dude.

Trump may not be exactly like Hitler, but he is a fascist, and this was revealed in time, and to deny it now is face-meltingly stupid.
Once you see that Trump is a fascist, there's nothing offensive about the video, other than equating protesting and voting to putting your life on the line in the battlefield. That part I don't like.

The outrage is the comparison of those on D-Day who fought in an honorable way against a clear and present danger to the domestic terrorists that ANTIFA/BLM the organization clearly is. Looting, rioting, burning buildings, assaulting police officers and the public, etc.

There is absolutely NO comparison. At all.

That's like trying to compare some man bun wearing feckless shite to Clint Eastwood. WTH is wrong with people these days?

Fascism is a heretical variant of communism, a rival movement, with both ideologies being properly categorized on the Left. The polar opposite if each is American style Constitutional liberties based on private property and the individual as the supreme political unit, with free cultural institutions as the primary sustainers of human flourishing.

American conservatism remains as the last bulwark in the world against all of the socialist modes if thought - national socialism and Soviet socialism.

There's more than one way to describe the political spectrum or compass.  Yours is fine but it's not the only one.
I think you'll agree with me that Trump was not a great defender of private property or of individuals or of private cultural institutions other than Fox News.
As he's not a great fit for "the right" on this spectrum, it's not inconsistent to say he has commonalities with "the left" on it, including with the fascists.

So you don't think fascist is the right word.
OK.
What you do call the attempt to violently disrupt a session of Congress and overturn its result?
I call it fascist.
What word do you think is better?
