Anybody remember our first game winning TD catch?

1995 Desmond Howard. We beat the Oilers 17-16. Al Del Greco missed a FG at the end of the game.

That play doesn’t get talked about much, but it’s right up there with the biggest plays because it was our first game winning play.

Those were some exciting times.

Coughlin’s handling of Howard was our first clue of what was to come from him a few years later when the power trip hit full swing.
He had good value as a returner for a few more seasons but was jettisoned due to personal conflict with TC, if I recall correctly.

Been a long time.

And then Howard goes on to win The Super Bowl MVP in 1996 with the Packers.

Howard also scored the first ever TD in team history, which was a punt return that he took to the house against Carolina in the Hall of Fame preseason game.

Randy Jordan scored the first official, but I always considered Desmond’s TD to be the first.
