Instead of filing lawsuits, those deadbeats need to get to work.

Maybe we compromise and give their lawyers 300 bucks a month to stay home.

Filing frivolous lawsuits should be painful, extremely painful.

I know there is work out there.... at least in my neck of the woods. A Tavern I go to on a regular basis has had a NOW HIRING sign up for months..... and they are paying $15 an hour to start. Yeah is kitchen and clean up work but.... If I wasn't physically disabled the way I am now (left hip needs replaced and my back is shot) I would jump at the chance to work there........

I'd do that for $15/hr. I've done it for less in my younger years.

Sad that deadbeats can make more from unemployment than people actually working.

I cannot wait for DeSantis to be our President.

Just for the record... I agree.  There are lots of jobs out there.

Tried going to Taco Lu on Sunday and they are now closed that day along with Monday due to staff shortages.

The people passing up these jobs are in for an incredibly rude awakening when adulthood slaps them in the face.

I love going to the town center, my family in tow, enter an empty restaurant only to be told, at 1:45PM, that the wait will be 30 minutes. No, thanks. Enjoy failure.

How about companies increase their pay? I know. Crazy idea. No one wants to work for less money then they would get for not working.

People with integrity do.

While on the topic, increase the pay to what? Throw out a number.

Well since profit is evil we should balance the labor costs to create just a 0.025% profit margin for the despicable capitalists who exploit the labor of the proletariat. Then we can tax that 95% to make them pay their fair share.

How about instead of increasing their pay, we quit paying them to not work?

One of the most annoying things to me is the "pay them more" shell argument. When challenged, the typical person will say "more" is $15 an hour, but nobody can explain how they arrived at that number.

The outcome of this employee shortage will likely include people making more money in service level jobs, but businesses will just pass that cost on to customers, and guess what the people now making more money are....that's right, customers of other businesses.

Inflation and cost of living increases are a natural part of the economy. It isn't rocket surgery.

Dimson is not saying it should be regulated by government. He's suggesting companies can afford to pay more. Think of it this way, companies are already offering to pay more since there is such a work shortage. Truth is, they could have been paying that much before Covid, but didn't. He's not wrong.... especially not as it pertains to the giant corporations. I am not so sure this holds true for mom and pop shops.

I'm a fan of free market driving the worth of a job. It's the #1 reason people change jobs. There are entire sectors of HR that do this analysis in large companies.

Paying someone more because you can will not be a topic taught in most MBA programs.

Then don't cry when they want to stay home rather than come work for your company for your crappy pay.

It should definitely not be regulated by the government. Very few things should be regulated. And anything that is regulated should be done with 100% transparency.

I love how you define crappy relative to the dollar amount the government is willing to send you of other peoples tax dollar that actually work for their "crappy" wages.

Is this the hill you want to die on? Fighting for lazy people?

The problem is they can stay home because of government intervention.  If they choose to stay home while not receiving that, then I would agree with your premise (which may be the case, also, in some scenarios).
