U.S. appeals court says this common police practice is unconstitutional

Putting a chalk mark on a car's tire – to keep track of how long they've been parked – is decidedly low-tech.

It's also, according to a second appeals court ruling on the same fight, unconstitutional.

Um, how does this relate to search and seizure? I get what the court is saying, in a sense, but that's being awful nitpicky. I wonder what SCOTUS would say?

Yeah, this will be overruled on appeal.

Interesting. If you are parked legally, do the police have the right to put a mark on your car? The court ruled that putting a mark on a legally parked car is trespassing.
