Head Coach Candidates (Merged Threads)

If things were over with Leftwich I would think we'd hear news of talking to other teams if not officially interviewing with them. (sure you can say he would just go back to TB and become head coach in waiting but that's no guarantee long term). I would think if there are teams that are interested now, you never know when you'll get another chance to get a head coaching job. It's very likely the Khans never considered Adrian Wilson until Leftwich made demands. I'm sure doing the due diligence on him took time. I find it odd that the guy who works for the cardinals would tweet it and then come on local Jax radio saying it's a done deal. And if things have fallen though, I find it odd there has been no news whatsoever that that is the case. It's possible Khan had second thoughts and it's possible everyone has agreed to prevent any and all leaks. But I'm not sure why Leftwich's team would have any reason to keep that a secret though. And while I know we are all impatiently waiting, I'm not sure no news is necessarily bad news. The only thing we've really heard since thursday afternoon is that tweet earlier today about O'Connell. But that could easily be misinfo coming from any number of parties for any number of reasons. There could be any number of legitimate reasons why things are taking some time. I hope you are right, but I don't feel that way. Leftwich not interviewing elsewhere doesn't seem significant to me. There was 8 other openings. 4 of them have already been filled. 3 of them never gave Byron a first interview, so it's unlikely that they that they would at this late stage. That leaves the Saints who actually have asked permission to interview Leftwich. Having a late start, I don't believe they have scheduled interviews with anyone yet. We also don't know whether Leftwich would want the Saints job. I wouldn't. They are in complete and total salary cap hell. He would be better off staying in Tampa for another year. In regards to Adrian Wilson, I find it concerning that the Jaguars have not requested permission to interview him. They are doing due diligence but no interview? There's also not even a hint that they've reached out to interview any other GM candidate which would be required under the Rooney rule. Given this, I don't understand how anyone thinks Wilson could be announced tomorrow as the new GM. Best case scenario is that they announce Leftwich and say that he has been given permission to pick the next GM. It's not impossible, but I think that is wishful thinking. The Jaguars seeking permission to interview Kevin O'Connell suggests that they are still searching. |
