You can always rob from one group to boost another

For instance - we may have 7 receivers, but only list 6 if Agnew is listed as a KR/PR specialist.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1640...in-the-nfl

That is a really old article and I’m not sure it completely applies today.

It's still pretty close to the typical breakdown numbers wise

It's actually almost identical to last year's September 53 from the jags

Article   /  2021 Jags

2 QB.         2 QB
4 RB.          3 RB
6WR.         5 WR
3TE.          3 TE
OL 9           OL 8
DL (4/3) 9     DL (3/4) 8
LB 7 (4/3)       LB. 5 (3/4).
DB 10            DB 10
ST 3              ST 3
  (53)              EDGE 6
                       (53)

The only real difference between the article and 2021 Jags is the 4/3 vs 3/4 defense and how those players are assigned to positions.

Oluokun led the NFL in tackles last year and was very stout vs the run.

You thought a team facing Derrick Henry and Jonathan Taylor in their division would sign him and then immediately supplant him with a rookie?

Fatukasi - J Allen - D Williams - S Griffin - Oluokun  are verifiably not "nobodies" - That's 5 vets with above average seasons logged

A #1 overall pick is not a nobody - very far from it - all eyes are on this promising athlete

Then add in 3 young up-and-comers in Cisco, Lloyd and Campbell

That's 9 of 11 starters who are not "nobodies"

same story nearly every year, but that's exactly what intrigues me about the preseason.

Who manages to find the hidden gem? Which vets get squeezed out of their job? Which teams are so loaded at a position that they're gonna leave some good guys in the FA pool?

You're probably not old enough to remember the Miami Dolphins' "No-name defense."  That was their nickname the year they won the Super Bowl.  1972.

Did you see the movie "Nobody?"  We're going to be like that guy.

Walker Little has gotten a raw deal ever since he was drafted here. He'd be starting LT for many teams with the talent he has. I don't know why they're making him jump through so many hoops to get on the field.

IF Little loses the starting battle to Taylor that means Little is a dud.

I did.

So you seriously thought that despite signing Oluokun just this off-season to a three year, $45 million deal with $28 million guaranteed, that they would relegate him to the second string prior to even the first pre-season game being played?

I'm gonna be honest, I'm not sold on this O-line at all. I miss when we had [BLEEP], smashmouth O-lines. I know the game is changing. but the 98-99/05-07 lines come to mind. I used to love watching those guys.

That explains a lot. It's just a preseason game and especially the first 1.
