Most Overlooked New Player

#1

#94 Foley Fatukasi.  He was beating his man and re-setting the line of scrimmage constantly vs the Steelers.  They couldn't block him.  A 3-4 defense starts with the nose tackle and it looks like we have a really good one.

Mekhi Sargent. At 5’8”, he’s easily the shortest man on the roster.

I agree that he has largely been overlooked up until now

Scherff.

A lot of the benefit he's brought is not just his own spot. Taylor's not making bad plays or thoughtless penalties. The pocket has been clean and afforded Trevor time to scope the field. There's been a few screens/rollouts where I've seen him pulling and just obliterating cover guys.

We expected this of him, but haven't heard anyone shouting from the rooftops about how welcome all those positives he helps produce.

I couldn't imagine the state of our line right now had we not landed him, and that's the biggest plus in his favor.

Can't argue with that, given the Subject line.

I suspect he may be a little overlooked because he's been pretty much what was expected: a quality, veteran free agent addition to the DL. People are geeked up (rightfully so) about the play of Arden Key and Travon Walker so he's kind of not getting talked about.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

I agree. Nose tackles are always overlooked. They don't show up on the stat line and on TV usually another player is blocking your view of them.
My fellow southpaw Mark Brunell will probably always be my favorite Jaguar.

Any update on Fatukasi's injury?

I like Sargent. He's a hard runner, and has good hands. It's also good luck to have a military name playing for a military town, even if it isn't the Army. Plus, I'd like to hear him tell the rookies to 'drop and give me 20'.

Rumors are that Fotukasi was the top FA target and Oluwakon was the second target in free agency.
Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

Learn from the great collapse of 2023.

Makes sense when your are ranked in the bottom 5 in the league in every run defense stat-line

Arden Key was an after-thought in free agency. Now, he looks like a force on the interior lightning package.

FWIW - I thought he was a better add than most of the mid-tier DL/DE guys we've tried over the years from free agency.

Nonetheless, he is having more impact more rapidly than I expected.

I think he means he, whoever he is, is overlooked because he hasn't played yet, which by default would be the definition of 'overlooked'.

The 49ers knew what they were losing in Arden Key:

We only signed him to a one-year deal though, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Yes Indeed.

Being that we havn't seen him on the playing field as of yet he is definately overlooked. One could say that Robinson could be overlooked but we know what we have in him when healthy. The same can be said for Key and or any other FA that we've acquired. They'll be a time when Lloyd will be able to grace us w/his athleticism of which may be against the Commanders.

Time Will Tell.

He's not overlooked. People have been clamoring for him to play this entire preseason, even though he's injured.
