World Cup 2022: Iranians cheer for USA over home country amid ongoing protests

The USMNT beat Iran Tuesday, 1-0

Amid protests in Iran that have lasted close to three months, many Iranians were rooting for the United States to defeat their own home country in Tuesday's World Cup match.
Tuesday's match was pivotal for both squads. Iran would have advanced to the knockout stage with a draw, while the USMNT needed a win, which it got, to advance.
However, some protesters feel an Iranian loss or draw will now hurt the regime on the world stage and give fuel to the protesters' fight.

Instead of a sign that says "Do Not Disturb" I need one that says "Already Disturbed Proceed With Caution."

We have mislabeled Iran for so long. They could be one of our best political and cultural allies in the Middle East if they would throw off their theocracy.

It's possible they will throw off their theocracy.  If that happens, it would probably end all their meddling in Lebanon, Bahrain, Iraq, Syria, etc.  It would also probably give women the choice to wear the hijab or not.
But the new Iranian government would probably continue to try to build nuclear weapons.  And it would probably still gravitate more to Russia than to the US.

The problem is US meddling in their country. Even now the Biden admin is messing around with it. You can't be an ally if you keep putting in your puppets or try to undermine the existing government or people.
