It has hit the fan here

Link. Or look up Moore county NC power outage.

This is where I live. Some idiots decided to vandalize substations here and most of the county is without power and won't have it until Thursday at the earliest.

This is the first time I've been able to get online since Saturday and it's only because I'm out of my county. Today is the first shower I've had since Saturday. This afternoon is the first actual meal since Saturday.

I have some cautionary tales to tell.

Anyone who ever thought it would be cool for [BLEEP] to hit the fan...they're a bunch of idiots who have no freaking clue what they're talking about. It's easy to deal with a storm you've prepared for but something like this? No. And we're more prepped than most people. This has showed us where our preps are lacking. It's also showed us what happens when everything shuts down except one grocery store.

Funny enough the mail still ran today. Anyway, I'll be back when I can.

Are you in the Southern Pines area? I’ve stayed there a few times when teaching at Bragg. Beautiful country.

Sounds to me like some rednecks with an ax to grind shot up those power stations.

Sorry to hear about this Americus.  Hope things get better soon. (That’s sincere)

I can’t believe you’ve been without internet for multiple days.  That’s gotta be rough. (Joking).

HB we live in Aberdeen which is next door to SP. It is a nice area.

Jags, thanks. It has been hard to be without internet and any other form of communication. Lack of information when you're in the middle of this sort of thing is very disconcerting.

And I didn't know who won the Jags game. Was it bad? It was probably bad.

I thought I saw you online Sunday before the game.  Lesson learned I suppose.   Now another situation to be aware of and prepared for.  Lessons learned I suppose.  Glad y’all are safe.

Nope. No interwebs since Saturday night. Sunday I was driving to another county to buy a generator. Thankfully I found one that runs our fridge/freezer and a couple of lights and charge phones.

I'm at a friend's house tonight. Warm, showered and fed. Will spend the night. It sucks hard waking up to a house that's 50° inside. Hubby is at work.

Good luck, Americus. I'm supposed to head to that area on Thursday for a golf trip, so will be monitoring the situation.

This will sound crazy but what if it was Russians?

You may want to confirm. My neighbor works at a golf course and they told two families that were to check in some time this week not to come.

The outage map for our area in case you're interested. Our area is the one with the biggest number. Currently 36K still without power.

I’m really curious as to the motive behind this. My speculation is some locals angry at the power company, for whatever reason.

One thing is for sure, when they’re caught, they’ll be going away for a long while.

So, this whole thing was supposed to be the result of a 'drag show' being performed at some nondescript bar in the area. Of course, liberal news outlets pinned it on 'Christo-fascists' which sounds like the latest buzzword for religious Nazi's. The story is that shooting up the substation killed the power which didn't allow the drag show to commence. The outage did happen at the bar, but then Duke Energy solved the issue quickly by rerouting power from another substation, which is SOP for outages. Either this is a really stupid made up story, or a true story executed by stupid people. You will have a greater chance of causing an outage to a residence by attacking the infrastructure closest to the residence, ie, the metering at the service, or the lower voltage lateral power lines. That would make it more difficult to reroute power from circuits still intact, cause you have damaged what is closest to them. Of course, the bar could have also had an emergency generator as well. Either way, they succeeded in damaging high voltage transformers, which usually don't have a lot of replacement spares in stock because of their size and cost, and leaving most likely thousands of people without power for a while.

Wow. That entire write up for an unsubstantiated social media theory.

That’s probably more words than they dedicated to FTX going under.

Good gawd.

Mods better move this thread to the political forum.

I never said anyone but criminals and people under age 21 should have their semi automatic rifles taken away...
Now RPGs on the other hand... you got one of those?

Anyhow if it was Russians, those Russians would be far out of the area by now, picking out their next target a few states over.
