I know some of you weren't around in 1996, so my apologies, but you are still more than welcome to participate.
But, for those of us with the benefit of having experienced all three of three of those largely unexpected playoff runs, which is your favorite and why? Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

1996 because I was 8 years old and I remember the excitement my whole family had in December that year.
1999 stung the most because it marked the beginning of the end for Coughlin and 2017 was a giant tease that had us believing we had turned the corner. This year has a 96' vibe to it. With us turning the corner. Hopefully this next run results in a Lombardi. Sent from my SM-S906U using Tapatalk ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? And 96, The lost to the New England Patriots and a it had introduce my emotions to NFL Fandom.
In 99, I was just stunned when I left the game that day because I couldn't believe we lost it don't 3 times. Although, I had a bad feeling about it because deep down that team just had our number. In 17, that loss hurt me to my soul because I felt like we was robbed of an opportunity to win a legitimate Super Bowl. Also, our coaches robbed us based on their decision making being scared during that game AFC championship game. This team brings me the most excitment because I truly believe it's the beginning of something special with Trevor Lawrence and Doug Peterson as a tandem of quarterback and coach combination. ![]() (01-08-2023, 06:31 PM)Caldrac Wrote: 1996 because I was 8 years old and I remember the excitement my whole family had in December that year.I excluded the 1999 playoff run because we all expected to be in the Super bowl that year. Hard to rate this year because we don't know how the playoffs will go. 2017 didnt have quite the same exciting regular season finish as we had it clinched with a week to go. But the playoff run was great. I have enjoyed the stretch run of this regular season more than 1996 though just because of how bad things have been for 15 or so years. And to see the hope we have the for the future. In 1996 didnt realize how hard it was. It was just fun but didnt have the years of misery to compare it to. This just tastes so much sweeter.
But it'll take a super bowl appearance and/or victory to ever top the entire 96 season for me. Mom had just moved me out to Denver a year or two before and being at that Jags/Broncos playoff game is still the single most exciting game I've ever been to. It'll take a lot to top the combination of that stretch run to the make the playoff, the playoff run, and then being there for that upset. ________________________________________________ Scouting well is all that matters. 96 was probably the best for me. I was in college, did a ton of drinkin, lovin and fightin.. One game back in '96, all 3 happened at a tailgate party in the parking lot lolol
'96 easily. We had some magic there and dispatched the two Super Bowl favorites in Buffalo and Denver that year. Elway is still bummed about it. '99 was an expected run and it was a Super Bowl or bust feeling and the stinkin' Tacks beat us and it felt like we got robbed. 2017 was a good run but I knew the defense couldn't carry the team all the way. I enjoy seeing the Jaguars in the playoffs period. We could be one and done and I'd accept the season for what it was. Good vibes. The defense has really come on lately and the offense pitched a stinker so they should bounce back and give us a balanced, complimentary team which can be elite and play with anybody.
1996 and 2022 are the real deal. Legit coaches and legit QBs.
2017 was weird. We had a [BLEEP] coach and an average QB whose Jags career was saved for at least one more year due to that season. The team was not all in like they are this year. The 2022 team are ALL IN with Doug Pederson. They've drunk the Teal Koolaid mixed up by Doug, especially Wingard, bless his heart. We show less advertisements to registered users. The '96 run was magical but we didn't know how special because it was Year 2.
2017 was my least just because it was clear that we got the benefit of playing backup QBs over and over again. They were a good team but the competition came back to them more than they excelled. This year is my favorite because we've suffered years and year of pain culminating with the Meyer Catastrophe and now Doug and this team have literally erased all of that in the last 6 weeks. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

This is akin to picking the child you like best on a public forum. 2017 - we had a team most of which were hired guns, a QB that struggled to throw a spiral and a coach that was a TC mouth piece. They did get ripped off in the conference championship. This one is out despite thinking highly of TC. 2022 - results are not in yet so it doesn't qualify. I have said since the preseason it does feel like 1996. We will have to see where it goes from here. It does have the chance to be the one though. 1996 - So far this is the one. We were 4-7. It was improvement over the previous year. ( kind of like this team) They were learning to play together early that season. Something brought them all together (like the scene in the movie Major League) They went on a wonderful run. This was the second year of pro football here. It was amazing. (We still during opponents field goals invoke the spirit of Morton Anderson in my section) After the Buffalo and Denver games it seemed the whole city met the team at the airport lining the roads! We did get ripped in New England when our QB headset wouldn't work but New England's' would. Next year the NFL took control of that away from the home team. best I could do...
A new broom always sweeps clean.
Well, the '96 run was so magical and it was all so new (and I was so much younger, ha). It's hard to beat that but this one is right up there and buoyed by the fact that we seem to be set up for a lengthy stretch of excellence. Exciting time to be a Jags fan.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

For me ot goes as follows:
1996. That year was absolute magic. I was 10 years old and still remember the exhiliration of the Morten Anderson missed kick. The playoff run was also insane. 1999. Being top dogs and absolutely curb stomping Dan Marino and the Dolphins holds a special place in my heart. Only knock is the Titans. 2007. David Garrard was legendary in that game. Against the Steelers. First time the Steelers had lost two times to the same team at home. 2017. Carried by our defense and that Steelers game was a blast. Second time the Steepers have lost two times to the same team at home. The run UP TO the playoffs has a '96 vibe. Its final ranking for me depends on how they fair in the playoffs. Also, I just realized my rankings are in chronilogical order. Nostalgia, maybe?

1999, 2007, 2022, 1996 then 2017
Is how id rate them. 2017 was a great season but it wasn't a very dominant offense

1996, but this would top that if we can get to the Superb Owl.

‘96 can’t be topped. It was our 2nd year in the league. The stadium was filled every week no matter what. There was no internet back then so everybody was tuned into the radio and the news stations. Everybody in Jacksonville was wearing Jags apparel. If you pumped gas at the store, you would over hear someone talking about the team. There was Boselli signs inside of Burger King. Mark Brunell was doing the First Union commercials and the Burger King commercials with the flame broiled whopper.
But what makes ‘96 the best, is the night they beat Denver they opened the stadium up. The only way you knew about this is if you were listening to the radio inside your vehicle or if you were watching the news. I heard it on the radio and begged my parents to take me but they said no, so I talked them into letting me ride with my neighbors. Once we got inside the stadium, Jaxson was hyping up the crowd and they were playing music, and all of a sudden the loud speaker announced the Jag players are flying over the stadium so we all cheered and waved at them. About 20 minutes later, every player was inside the stadium and they were doing interviews. Jimmy, Keenan, Mark, Tom, and then they let Widell get on the mic and he said Jacksonville Do you believe in miracles. The Bills record at home on Wildcard Weekend was 9-0, the Broncos were something like 9-0 at home in the divisional playoffs, but we took down both teams, both away games, we were called the Jagwads. I was in Chicago in 96. Wasn’t a fan then. I’ll have to eliminate that for me, personally.
99 isn’t an option. Good! That’s the year I moved here and Got season tickets. [BLEEP] the titans. 2017 vs 2022. I’ll have to go with 2022. This year felt different. Despite the losing streak, we were in every game but the lions. The Doug Pederson and TL effect showed me way more promise for the future rather than this season. 2017 felt more like a now or never deal. Not many had faith in Blake. About half maybe, had faith in Marrone. We knew we had the HC and QB on the roster this year. We saw the team win games they weren’t supposed to. We saw them lose by one score the rest of the way for the most part, and mostly because of silly mistakes, turnovers, etc. despite the losing, we knew we had something special in the making. To our surprise, they went on a run. A year early than most of us expected. Even if they’re one and done in the playoffs this year, I know next year we will be the team to beat in the AFCS and hopefully contenders for the conference. This year was special for me because we see what can happen when the right pieces are in place to put us in a situation like the Colts had with Manning, and hopefully the Pats with BB /TB. We obviously have some More pieces to go for the later of the two. But I’ve got faith now when I hadn’t before. As irritating as the game was yesterday, I knew we were still in it until the clock hit 0:00. Never really felt that in the past decade or so.
I was a professional sports fan long before I moved to Jacksonville and the 1996 run was the most awesome thing I’ve ever witnessed. Only thing that will top it is WHEN we win a Super Bowl.
