Maybe we could call it a draw and play WAP over the school PA system. No big deal. Nothing new.

Were we playing 2 live crew over school PA systems 35 years before DeSantis was taking books off of public school shelves? Or nah?

Why conflate these two completely disparate things?

There is zero correlation.

I have no idea about 2 live crew or the lyrics they used. Were they as pornographic as WAP?

They’re not disparate. It’s about allowing adult themed content more and more accessible to children while claiming it’s no big deal.

Frequent use of the same P-word and similar references. yes - basically the 1990 version of WAP and controversial at the time.

The book removal is about much more than adult themed content  - and music rated for "adults" has been part of our landscape for a long, long time. decades.  There hasn't been a shift there.

The book thing substantiates a shift.

You're wrong.  You have absolutely no way of knowing the motives and intentions of potential alien life, or even the physical form in which such life might exist.

Their motives, intentions, and physical form are all irrelevant to my point.
My point is it is very very hard to get off of our planet, and any species that has mastered interstellar travel will likely come from a planet that is much much easier to launch large amounts of mass and energy off of.  At that point such species will be looking for places that are like their planet or better.  Not worse.  We might observe such a species trying to mine asteroids and comets in our solar system and convert them into colonies.  All the resources they would ever need are on those asteroids.  Maybe after a long period of exploiting our asteroids they might decide to give planetary colonization a try, but we would observe their asteroid activities first.

The book thing substantiates a shift because what is being made available for young children to access in school libraries has shifted. There is a forceful movement on the left to expose children at younger ages to sexuality under the guise of alphabet acceptance.
For some reason it is now okay for children learning multiplication tables and the magic of photosynthesis to also have access to book passages about sex as long as it’s homosexual in nature. What changed?

You're right to compare WAP to 2 Live Crew.  Neither was on the radio, neither was played at school events, neither was ever meant for kids.   The one difference is WAP is sung by women, and there's a certain breed of misogynist that will laugh when men talk about sex but get all concerned and disgusted when women return the favor.  I suspect more than one of the people bringing up WAP are exactly that type of misogynist, though they don't realize it.

But I think you're blind to the issue about books.  When we were kids there was simply no such thing as a library book that was accessible to kids that had queer characters in it.  When I was a kid these were just starting to be published, and no library in Jax had them, school or public.  But as of a couple of years ago, there were all sorts of books with queer characters that were meant for kids.  Princes in shining armor that fight dragons and also want to kiss other boys. I have kids.  We go to the library.  These are facts. It's all mixed in with all the normal books.  It's been creeping in for years, and no one spoke up. It needs to be separated out into its own section.  And the publishers and libraries have refused. They won't work with parents on this.  So instead of segregation you get banning.  Sad, but understandable.

I'm not blind to it at all. I think that queer content is only the tip of the iceberg with the censorship DeSantis and his ilk wish to impose on our children's education. That isn't the issue, just a facet of it.

So, the motives of these theoretical visitors coming to Earth are admittedly unknown to you, yet you still know what type of planet they're looking for?  That's amazing, how do you do it?  I could only assume their planet was one giant desert, and they wanted to live at the beach.  Or maybe it was just a bunch of teenage aliens out for an interstellar joyride in a stolen spaceship.   Laughing

P.S.  What resources does an alien lifeform (of unknown physical characteristics) require?  I couldn't find the info anywhere online.  Is there plenty of water on those asteroids?  I've heard they like swimming pools.

It's a super catchy song. When I hear it, it gets stuck in my head for hours. Hit number 1 on the top 100 billboard. LA Times called it "Delightfully Raunchy." Truth is that it's just another, oversexualized Hollywood product that's encouraging young women to be whores. They just keep pushing out the boundaries of what's considered normal. The message is terrible for young children, though. Why do we not have a spoiler tag on this forum? Because, even though this can be accessed by a quick YouTube search and heard in the car, this arguably can't be posted here. A small town is inciteful, though.

[lyrics removed, people can look it up if they're interested]

Selective mod enforcement strikes again. I just copied and pasted the lyrics. It's not my fault your profanity filter isn't as creative as Cardi B. Or maybe it's programmed to think her song is delightfully naughty. It sure wasn't because I tried to get around it some way.

Doesn't matter. I'm starting to like having my warning. Thanks Marley Jag. You're a beautiful man.

You're thinking in terms of the conditions necessary for life as we know it to evolve.  For that you need liquid water and for liquid water you need an atmosphere and for an atmosphere you need a lot of planetary mass, etc.

But those aren't the conditions necessary for interstellar dispersal.  If the species is capable of building space capsules that contain the artificial atmosphere it needs for its life cycle, and able to accelerate those capsules across interstellar space, it will also be able to mine asteroids for the raw materials needed to create more capsules.  To answer your question, yes, most comets have ice and many asteroids are made up of mineral hydrates.  If you're close enough to a star and you have solar panels, you can mine asteroids for basically the entire periodic table of the elements, certainly the first couple of rows.  So the material for those capsules will be collected beyond the gravity well and the capsules will remain beyond the gravity well.  The capsules will spin to create their own gravity if the species needs gravity for any reason.
