Week 2 talk: KC vs Jax

Gotta scratch off anything that takes time to develop that doesn't have TL rolling away from Jones' side of Center.

Run plays away from Jones and some supreme level dink and dunk are likely getting cued up as we speak.

Will be interesting to see which RB they select to help protect or if they put Strange in the back field as an H.
If they plan to let Trevor throw downfield - he'll need added protection.

Jones would face a banged up Scherff who played, um, not so well yesterday - or a declining Shatley who is definitively no match for Jones. If they flip him to the other side it's even worse with Ben Bartch, whose bulk-up smoothie recipe apparently contains some sort of pass-pro kryptonite.

Yep. They honestly need to treat this like a play off game. Understand that your weaknesses are what they are and trust that you can execute your strengths better than they can execute everything better than you across the board.

Use his aggressiveness against him.
Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

Learn from the great collapse of 2023.

I couldn't disagree more.  Our chances of winning go up with Kelce out.  This game is important.  If we win, we will have a 2.5 game advantage over Kansas City in playoff seedings.  If we lose, Kansas City will have a .5 game advantage over us.  It is a long season with a lot of football left, but I love the idea of having a 2.5 game lead over Kansas City with us playing a mostly easy schedule and our toughest game already out of the way.  Seeding can determine whether we have home field advantage in the playoffs.  It can determine whether or not we get a bye.  Even if it turns out not to be needed against Kansas City, a win, particularly against an AFC opponent, could easily be the difference in the seeding with another team.  I want us to win.

Peterson keeps hitting. Love it.

Totally agree, will drastically change the game plan. Probably have to double Jones if he starts eating.

I would have really liked the Jags to win prior to Jones' signing. The Jags will have a raucous home crowd and hot temperature in their favor. The Chiefs have a well -rested Chris Jones going up against an interior offensive line which played poorly in week one. Unless these guys (Fortner, Bartch, Schereff- if he plays) improve dramatically, the Chiefs will have a huge advantage.

It's going to be hot and muggy, so Jones may not be ready for that. Some rain in the morning followed by sun would be a killer with all the water in the air.

Not really frightened by any teams in the NFL after this week. Not a team we can't hold our own against or outright whoop. This might actually be our year, barring injuries.

No AFC team really looks that great. KC getting Kelce and now Jones back (go figure) against us kind of hurts. I would still consider them the front runner of the AFC. I would rather beat them at full strength though, we'll need all 3 phases playing well. Mahomes can move but he isn't the size and speed of Richardson. We'll likely just be their first victim of not being able to cover Kelce.

Last I read, Kelce is still questionable although they say they’re optimistic he could be back. But they were optimistic he could be back against Detroit before they ruled him out. Hopefully the Jags aren’t worrying about what KC is going to do but concentrating on what they are going to do.

We were right with them in KC in the playoffs last year. I like our chances but of course it’s going to be tough.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

And Jones probably figures he can get a head start on those incentives against our line.

Here's hoping he's rustier than a junkyard Buick

Has early play off implications on the line.

Given each team's schedules, I'd say the game is more important to the chiefs than us from a playoff seeding perspective.  I could see us losing this game and still finishing with a better record than them.  If we win, we absolutely finish with a better record than them and probably don't need to rely on the head to head tie breaker in my mind.

If we win, we have a better current record than them and that is all I am comfortable assuming. I don't see KC imploding and our line does not give me the confidence to think we'll run through the regular season like a hot knife through butter.

But you are certainly right, no team with playoff aspirations wants to start 0-2.

This will be a good challenge for the team, give us a chance to see us against the SB champs and where we are at as a team. I had this as a loss before the season started and I think the biggest difference in the playoff game last year was the Chiefs have the experience of big games and how to make enough game winning plays.

That's something we can learn and improve as we face a lot of SB contenders this year and these games will really help us mentally down the stretch.

I'll be interested to see a couple 1v1 matchups.

Taylor vs Allen/Travon
McDuffie vs Ridley
Karlaftis vs Anton

Toney Vs. himself

Would add Kelce Vs. whole defense. LOL.

This is going to be an interesting game. The one sleeper I would look out for is Rice. Their rookie 2nd RD pick out of SMU. I liked him coming out of college. He's pretty fast. If Mahomes gets outside the pocket I would be concerned with that kid working anybody outside of Campbell and Williams. If he's in the slot on Herndon I would be looking out for him extensively.

We really need to accept that our weaknesses are what they are. You're not going to be able to run it up the middle and you're not getting very many opportunities to drop back and sit in the pocket for deep shot attempts. Even if they don't play zone. It just seems like we would be asking too much of this interior.

They're going to need to get Lawrence rolling out of the pocket, they're going to need all of the TE's sealing the edges and helping out with the outside running game to throw key blocks to free somebody. They really need to figure out the screen game and they really need to figure out a way to prevent Kelce from crippling them all game.

He's going to get his catches. It is what it is. You just need to limit him from breaking big runs after the catch.

KC after last week and facing this Jaguar team decided to pay Chris. There is something there. They know if they allow TL to not be pressured we win easy. Also after missing a game check Chris decided to sign a one year deal. Neither side wanted to begin the season 0-2. I think we win this week.

Toney has been getting open consistently he just hasn't been able to catch the ball.  Hopefully that continues.  Kirk vs McDuffie should be a matchup we look at.  McDuffie had a very hard problem with St. Brown in the slot Thursday night and Kirk and St. Brown are very similar.  I think Kirk has his bounce back game against KC. Have to find a way to block Jones and Allen and Walker have to win their matchups against Taylor and Smith

Yeah, despite all the warranted criticism from week 1, I think Toney (when healthy) is the best they have at WR and will bounce back. I just hope he's got another game worth of rust still to shake off.

Despite what we believe our OL is, they all have a certain pride. I am expecting them to want to make a statement this week. Will they? We shall see.

We'll see. If not, we know Strange is willing to pick-up his teammates escort them into the endzone. LOL. I think that's an underrated moment. A rookie helping a rookie in a game where they both had rookie moments. That's a testament to coaching.

I would love to see both of them have a big game out of everybody. Just to scare the hell out of the rest of the NFL. Imagine getting 50 yards a piece out of the two of them with a pair of TD's against the Chiefs. We can just let the veterans relax this week against the Superbowl defending champions.

No big deal.
