The Playoffs Start Sunday

#1

This next stretch of games before the bye is brutal. However, after the bye, the schedule lines up nicely to make a run.  To have any chance to do anything, we need to win 3 of the next 4. In effect, the playoffs start now. It seems like an uphill battle, but the Packers game will tell us how much fight is left in this bunch. We have the young talent emerging to surprise.

It's cleaner to think about the next 4 because the bye is after that. But really the next 5 are the hardest remaining games. Think they can go 3-2 over those 5 and still be in play. Remaining 5 games after that is a fairly easy final stretch relatively.

Problem is mathematically they still have a shot. 10-7 will most likely get you in the playoffs. And 9-8 may also be good enough. But we've seen little that suggests we can go on that kind of run down the stretch. They just aren't playing consistently good enough. And beating a bad team in new England doesn't change that.

Just don’t see it. Even with defensive returnees from injury our deficiencies on that side of the ball are just too much.

They seem to buckle at all the wrong times. 1st drive tone setter, just about every third down regardless of distance. And in the 4th quarter.

Would be shocked if we beat any of the NFC teams we are about to play.

At least this game isn't in Lambeau Field. Still. This will be tough. They have a good coach. Stop the run and force Love to make plays.

Kind of like when we beat the bills back in the rebuild years. If that can happen, anything can happen. Let’s make it happen jags! Aren’t some more players suppose to come back from injury? I’m thinking of wingard and foye. Also Gibson from suspension. Help is on the way. Reload and don’t shoot until you see the whites of their eyes.

By the way, is it too much to ask for to blitz some line backers?

Foye and Dewey were both designated for the three week window to return today.

Getting Foye back will be big.

Not so sure Dewey or Tashaun are going to do much to solve the secondary woes, but I'm all for making adjustments there to find out.

The new lineup of Cisco and Savage interchanging at FS/SS and Jarrion Jones at nickel is already an improvement over the Cisco/FS, Johnson/SS, and Savage/NB lineup. Just not a dramatic improvement.

Does that mean if we think we're the best, we shoot ourselves in the foot?

IT ALL MAKES PERFECT SENSE NOW

Like Doug said in the postgame, we just have to start fresh each week, go 1-0. Don't worry about past records, current standings, or future matchups. Win the Sunday, the rest will take care of itself.

None of the upcoming games will be easy. We can hang with all of em though, as long as we don't make dumb mistakes.

The Packers squeaked by the texans when Stroud couldn't crack 100 passing yards. It can happen if they put it all together. The secondary will be key here. Stopping Reed, Wicks, Kraft, and Doubs will be tough.

Yea we should have beaten the Texans. They aren't great. Packers are no better. Wouldn't be surprised if we beat them. But also wouldn't be surprised if we're blown out.

The jags are capable of going on a run. And I honestly believe they could go 3-2 over their next 5 if they can play consistently. That's a big "if" though. Team has talent. And getting some guys back from injury.

I don't even care to being the best.  I just want to be 9-8, to be honest.

Honestly, looking at the next 4 games ahead of the bye, I don't see another win.  Perhaps the team squeaks out one, but I find it unlikely.

I wish I could disagree, but I can't.

There are two gettable games in there, but the defense would need to play at least 3 quarter of better ball than they've played most of the year -  and the offense would have to limit mistakes much more than they have in 5 of 7 contests so far this year.

The odds of catching that kind of lightning in a bottle seem slim to me.
Possible but not likely.
