Terrible news. I actually know someone who experienced the same thing about the same age. Until you have kids, you really don't know how easily a kid can run in front or behind a car no matter how careful you are.

Terrible tragedy for the Heap family. As a parent of a 7,5, and 3 year old I know how they can be. Prayers to the Heap's in this very trying time.

I can't imagine what it must be like for him.  It is most certainly sad news and my thoughts/prayers are with him and his family.

You just know he'll be thinking about it every single day for the rest of his life. I really don't think I could ever get over something like that.

Couldn't wrap my head around it all day yesterday. As a dad of a 2 year old and a big believer that in the face of tragedies that life must go on, if he were to pass because of something I did im not sure I could bounce back. I hope Todd and his family can find some peace with this. I'm sure he's got a long road ahead of him.

Horrible news indeed and I feel for him and his family. I just hope he doesn't face any legal issues. He's already paid the ultimate price.

I was thinking about this exact thing this morning. It would haunt me for sure I know. I know how crazy it can get with little ones running around and you just know that all is clear when backing up or moving your vehicle.

Not relating this to the Heap story, but I recommend anybody who is going to have children and are financially capable, get a car(s) with a backup camera and possibly even one that breaks for you if it detects motion. I literally back out of my driveway at .5 mph when my kids are out front, even when I can clearly see them.

Yeah I'm the same way but it doesn't stop those idiots that think a suburban street is Daytona. Those types piss me off.

I always make them go where I can see them before I even release my foot off the brake.
