There is a link to the author's latest mock draft.

He projects a Jaguars trade down to 9 overall, taking O.J. Howard.

If this Jaguars-Bengals trade materialized (it probably won't), the difference between the #4 pick and the #9 pick is 450 points, per the trade value chart.

To make it even, the Bengals would have to send Jacksonville the 9 overall (1350 points)  and their second round pick, the 41st overall (490 points), while the Jaguars would give the Bengals the 4th overall pick (1800 points) and their 5th round pick (32.2)

Bengals to Jaguars 1840 points

Jaguars to Bengals 1832 points

Ok would do it in a heartbeat.

Thing is I can't see why Cincy would do this deal.

Yes, they could use a Solomon Thomas, but I don't necessarily see why they would have to deal up to get him.

Tacks arguably don't need a DL.  Jets are loaded at DL.

Thomas plays the same position as Bosa.

Maybe Carolina could use Thomas, but:

1.  Arguably they could use Fournette more; and

2.  If Cincy needs to get ahead of Carolina, they don't have to trade up to 4 to achieve that.

I would love to see this trade but don't believe we would have to give up the 4th round pick.

Well, the Bengals wouldn't simply give us the 9th overall pick.  We would have to give them something.

Why wouldn't a trade down involve our first round pick (the 4th overall)?

I think you mis-read my post. Obviously, we must give up our #4 pick but it was suggested that we also give up our 4th round pick.

I indicated we may have to give up our 5th round pick to make it close.

Maybe not, if the Bengals are desperate enough to make the move.

I'm trying to think who they might target in a move to 4. The only top prospect they've brought in for a private interview is Jamal Adams, but again that may not mean anything if they feel they already know enough about other players they might draft. Considering the players they've met with so far, I sense they're looking to draft a DE, RB and CB, so with that in mind they could be targeting Solomon Thomas, Jonathan Allen, Leonard Fournette or Marshon Lattimore.

My guess would be Adams, Thomas or Fournette.

Why are you thinking the Bengals shouldn't have to trade up for Thomas? Are you thinking he falls a bit?

As for Fournette, the Bengals just like the Panthers would have to think the Jaguars might take him, which sort of like my Panthers-Jaguars trade idea, thinking as much could force their hand in a move to 4.

If Thomas gets past the Bears at 4, he could fall a bit.

The Chargers with Gus Bradley at DC would probably snatch up Thomas in a heartbeat. Also, the Bears at 4?

Two thoughts running through my head at the same time.  Mea culpa

If Thomas gets past the Jaguars at 4.

Bradley might take him for the Chargers, but considering they have holes in the secondary, a better player at the same position, and OL needs, I'd say not.
