It depends on how that record is achieved. However I would call Gus a good leader not a good coach. There is a difference in the two distinctions. I don't think there's anything wrong with being a good leader but Ive said this before, Gus needs a very talented group to win. He's never shown the ability to take a bad roster and over achieve ala Tom Coughlin.


But in fairness to Gus, Tom wouldn't have won two superbowls with The Giants if he didn't ease up and become more of a player leader. So hopefully the same will be for Gus. Will see...

I like Gus, I hope he does get to 10-6. Not just because I want to win, but because I want to see a staff stick around. The perception around the league is still that he's a pretty good coach, you don't hear too many people outside of Jax calling for his head.

I don't think Tom ever had a roster as bad as ours. This year will be the test for Gus. He finally has a roster that can and should be competitive... Let's see what he does with it.

That's debatable. What Tom did with the 01-02 Jaguars was pretty amazing considering the fallout from the salary cap hell and gutting the roster for expansion. Especially 02 when I believe they started the year 0-8 and ripped off 6 wins as one of the worse teams in the league that year. Sadly his most impressive coaching year got him fired. The honey moon was over.

Coughlin will be a HOF coach, we cannot even compare the two. He's in the upper echelon of coaches and we were lucky to have him.

 

Gus was given a tough task when he was hired. This year will reveal a lot and then we can re-visit his coaching prowess as it seems he has talent all over the place.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Excluding the final game, I felt like Gus improved tremendously in the second half of the season. He was nailing challenges, handling the clock well and making some big-time halftime adjustments, all of which he stunk at in 2014. The Bills game almost seemed like a make-or-break game for Gus, and that win was sort of a corner-turning moment for him. The Jaguars went .500 over the next six weeks as the offense was clicking on all cylinders. Bradley appeared to finally arrive when the team absolutely demoralized the Colts, but unfortunately there is still a consistency issue as the Jaguars ended up losing their final three games including a pounding by the Texans in the season ender, although the losses to the Falcons and Saints were exciting battles. The bottom line is that Bradley went through some seriously growing pains early on as a head coach, but it would seem he's figured things out. This year I expect him to pick up where he left off regarding his improvements as a head coach so that by the team the team jells, the entire team...and not just the offense...will be clicking on all cylinders.

Not sure better coaching would have helped the Jags beat the Texans. The OL was terrible that day.

Let's not forget Coughlin left the franchise in ruins (more because of his GM moves/contracts than his coaching), but he finished only 8 games over .500.

 

That's not what I'd characterize as "amazing."  What's amazing is that we remained in Jacksonville after his mismanagement.

 

The guy who doesn't get any credit here was JDR, who finished only 4 games behind .500 after years of being dogged.  Gus didn't get as fast a start as Jack did on the rebuild, but that was nearly solely due to talent.  If he gets to 10 games, he deserves more respect than he's currently getting.  If we get more of the same, then he'll have earned it.  However, folks conveniently want to separate Dave from Gus.  Those that do need to be reminded that Dave is "all in" with Gus and reiterated that.  A failure of Gus would mean a grave judgmental error on Dave's part.  Hero or goat, Dave is highly leveraged here on the success/failure of Gus.
