Would you trade a first?

#1

Hypothetically, we are 6-2 at the midway point. The playoffs seem imminent. However, LT is still a glaring weakness. Would you trade a first for a quality LT? Would you add that piece to try to bolster that offensive line. Just having a discussion about it. I said I would, because it could elevate us and bring security to the line. My friend said he wouldn't mess with success and try to build through the draft for a smoother infusion in the team. Which I absolutely understand. Hard to argue that. What would you do?

Has a team ever traded a first round pick mid-season for a veteran?

No.

lol Broncos and Panthers made the SB with journeymen LTs.

Pass Rushers all day every day.

Nope. At 6-2 they are rolling pretty good. The Jags could push forward with what they have and address the issue in the off season. As inconsistent as LT has been, it wasn't the reason for multiple losing seasons.

Not just no, but double hockey sticks no!

I ain't trading a 1st for anybody in the league.

What we need to realize is we have a squad now. Look at our core...Jack Fowler Telvin Ramsey Gipson The Allens Bortles Linder Cann Yeldon Lee Greene Jackson

I'm probably forgetting some players but just think...with all the talent we have this year, we are going to add another 1st rounder next year.

Not with the way Dave Caldwell drafts.

FIXED. Answer is perhaps. The original question was not even in the ballpark of reason.

If your statement is taken to mean at least a first round pick, then the answer is yes (see Herschel Walker and Eric Dickerson trades, among others).

I can't imagine any other scenario where a team would give up a LT that's worthy of 1st round compensation except for Joe Thomas and the Browns who probably won't be able to benefit from his talents when they finally get good. And Joe Thomas for a 1st is still a bit questionable given that he'll be 32 in December.

We'll have to see how it plays out. I'm not expecting LT to be a major area of concern this year with the depth and competition. And if LT is a major sore spot I'd be shocked to be 6-2 or better at the halfway point.

I agree with everyone in a sense if you are 6-2 that you are doing is working so don't make that trade.  Let's put a twist in the question ---- you're 6-2 and the LT just got hurt and is out for the year ...... Then i'd make the trade below.

Tyrone Smith - Yes

My initial response to this was "No way Dallas ever traded him, but considering how loaded they are on the OL, thanks in part to the gift of La'el Collins, maybe if they get desperate enough for a QB...

Someones LT would have to be young/beasting and we went to 6-3 to close our lead on the division fresh off the loss where our starting LT went down for the season AND it clearly cost us the game with horrid backup play.

It would totally depend on who it was and if even after 6-2 LT was a glaring weakness.
