49ers QB Situation

It's great to see how much Gabbert has improved and I wish him the best of luck in San Fran. I also hope Kaepernick can work on his mechanics and further improve his game as well--I want to see him succeed. Should be an interesting battle.

The 49ers will be one of the worst teams in the NFL no matter who starts at QB.

It would not surprise me if they end up with the first pick.

Gabs!

He actually wasn't half bad last year and easily outplayed Kaepernick.

That team is trash. Their qb choices are like the presidential candidates. The Browns and 9ers should be moved to Canada.

Is this referring to the lower talent level in the CFL? Or a direct shot at Canada?

Payback for Celine Dion.

As soon as the 49ers hired Chip Kelly I thought it was a good sign for Gabbert. Gabbert does have a quick release with the ability to turn around at the end of his job and immediately throw to a spot, and this is precisely what Chip asks of his qbs. You see, Gabbert gets into trouble when guys are covered and he has to tuck the ball and then improvise. He simply can't do that, but in Chip's system he shouldn't have to.

Didn't he have one of the top plays in the NFL last year against the Bears when he ran one in from like 70 yards?

I'd say he can run.

He can run. I think he meant more of when he's under pressure and has to keep his poise to buy time to find a wr. That's where Gabbert struggles.

Or when he thinks he is under pressure. Which, of course, was all the time here in J-Ville. Looks like he might becoming a little less skidish, but by and large I don't believe he is a QB that takes you places, especially in the playoffs. Hes gonna let them down big time against good teams with pass rush. Thats why I think they should start Kap. Not that I think hes awesome. He was way overrated, but hes still better than Gabs.

No point in trotting out someone who will lose against any team with a decent pass rush, even if he looks okay otherwise now. Kaps probably will do no better at this point, but he has actually beaten good teams before.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

How is he better though? Seriously. He can run better. He can't throw a better ball, his decision making leaves a lot to be desired.

I would take the SF version of Gabbert over Kap any day.
