When Was The Last Time America Was Considered "Great"?

#1

We all are obviously well attuned to the slogan: "Make America Great Again", but can Trump or any of these politicians actually give a SPECIFIC time period or date that America was considered "Great"? Was it after World War 2? was it during the Reagan/Bush (Sr.) years? was it right after the Fall of the Soviet Union when we were the sole Superpower?

Most importantly, I'm interested in hearing everyone's own opinions about this. It's a very interesting topic. Does Trump have a point? or is this just political rhetoric designed to fume further anger at the establishment?

Same thing goes for us... are we actually 'Great Britain'?

It will be interesting to see the outcome of the EU Referendum, to see if we will remain in the European Union or not.

For you its just that big island you sit on. For us, he's clearly saying we arent great because of the Obama era.

To be fair, our current/last few PM's have done their best to screw this country into the ground.

But yeah, I take your point.

Depends on who's doing the considering. I still think America is great, even if everyone seems to be a little crazy right now. Instead of a civil war, we have elections coming up, and those will determine the course of our nation. That's kind of special when you step back and think about how most countries would handle it.

anyone who thinks America is not great needs to check out nations such as North Korea, Venezuela, most of Africa, China and Russia just to name a few...

Count me aso one who thinks this is a pretty great place, even despite its foibles.

Of course I am not afraid the younger generation is going to destroy the country, I have faith in people coming together when needed and still believe in the genuine decency of humans. So, maybe I'm just an oddball.

America is still great.  Aren't Republicans always getting on Democrats for saying it's not?  I still remember the outrage over what the Dixie chicks said about Bush, but then having no problem with what Ted Nugent said about Obama.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

check out African nations, see how many of them are great, or the impoverished and oppressed nations I mentioned... but then I guess the term GREAT is an individual's own discretion

America Is still great anyone that doesn't see it is to far removed from the generations that sacrificed to get here.

There's a wider distribution of wealth, more ownership private property, higher quality of living, access to endless resources, and abundance of food shelter and drinkable water, hell America doesn't realize how good we have it.

The slogan should be keep America great

There are many ways in which America is great. There are also ways in which it isn't. That goes for almost anywhere and is all about perspective.

I think people see what other people have and think 'the grass is greener on the other side'..

What's good and what's not is down to one's own interpretation, that's for sure.

10 trillion dollars of new debt at the same time only generating 2% GDP growth. That's not great.

If a third of the country wasn't advocating that we adopt the economic policies you listed above I would agree with you.

Thank goodness it's not the majority...There are always, and will always be, people wanting the social and economic policies of other countries...In a perfect world, socialism could work, however I can't foresee ever having a perfect or near perfect world to where socialism could actually work...

That would be a great point, if only it were true.

I'm aware of the forum rules regarding references to 'religion' on here. However, I'm unaware of how this question can be answered otherwise, so here it is;

... the United States of America ceased being 'great' the day it decided to move away from God (initially in philosophy and later in practice)  as the core foundation of our republic.
