"Seattle has been great, but all the other teams doing (that scheme) are finishing [BAD WORD REMOVED] like I did," Ryan said. "Right there next to New Orleans is Atlanta, Jacksonville. That's not sour grapes. That's me getting pissed off. Because I am great." - Rob Ryan

I've been saying the same thing. Seattle's D works for them, everyone else it hasn't.

Does anyone think Rob Ryan would be coaching in the NFL at all if it wasn't for his last name?

Those defenses haven't worked because they severely lacked talent.

Seattle is the only built defense off that model

Jags have lacked the speed at LB, FS, DE to be successful  Which should be fixed with Jack, Gipson, and Fowler.  Ramsey is a bonus, so based on the Seattle model we have been missing the 3 key pieces to being successful and we added a 4th and 5th piece (Ramsey and Jackson)  To bridge that gap.

Atlanta is farther behind than us and only really have a corner in place.  I don't believe in Vic Beasley

I didn't realize New Orleans was playing the scheme too, but also falling behind in the talent needed

I would have used Philly in my explanation instead.  I'm not familiar with them enough to know the pieces they are missing or have already

Go Jags!
*To stay up for atleast 2 years 3/6/17
2016 draft players I think will be good
  • On the Fournette train, will be best back of his class 3/6/17
  • Lattimore please,  Lockdowns on both sides would be nice
  • Engram at TE and the MJD clone Samaje Perine

I love how everyone thinks that Seattle came up with the earth-shattering concept of a 4-3 Under Defense.

This scheme has been around a hell of a lot longer than Pete Carroll. And Rob sounds like a [BAD WORD WITHHELD] Moron.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

He's a bit all over the map there. It sounds silly.

Ryan hasn't been a good defensive coordinator like ever lol. I guess all those other schemes was trash too huh?

The scheme loses its effectiveness without adequate talent. This year should get interesting.

You think Belichick hired him as LB coach and kept him there for three years because of his second name?

Partially? Yes.

I was more meaning in the present. As in do you think he would continue to find job opportunities as an NFL coach if his last name wasn't Ryan? I personally don't think so because I don't consider him that good of a defensive coordinator.

There's no doubt having an NFL second name helps but he was a really good coach in NE.

I don't think he's a great coordinator either but hes good enough to be in the NFL.

The Saints had the 4th best D in the NFL in 2013,that doesn't happen by accident or because of your second name.

Scheme doesn't mean anything in this regard. Similarity between the 3 teams mentioned in that quote is that they lack talent defensively.

Doesn't Oakland run a variation with Ken Norton?

This isn't groundbreaking stuff regardless, and neither is having a "LEO" and any other name we want to call it, or anyone else.

Rush end.  Got it.

It wasn't meant to be earth shattering, and neither was throwing a name on a particular role.

The media, and then us fans, acted like the coaches were acting like they created some new concepts.

True... I should have been more specific. The Jaguars scheme is no good without a proper LEO and OTTO in place.

Right and so does every other defensive scheme. There's no magic scheme that works even with crappy, slow players or ya know, everyone would use that one.

Just like any scheme. If you don't have the right level of talent or correct personnel you're doomed to fail. That's why successful teams like New England have had a respectable or sound defense for years under Bill Belicheck's coaching and decision making. Seattle makes the system and scheme look good because they have the right level of talent and correct personnel to make it do so.

Nothing more, nothing less. Naturally, the easiest fix would be to change your coaching style and scheme to fit the players you DO have. But a coach that starts bending or changing his philosophy will quickly lose the team's focus and and his leadership will be brought into question. With Caldwell's recent comments about Bradley's first two or three years basically being mulligans in his eyes. It's safe to assume he wanted Bradley to stay true to his voice and his beliefs on the defensive side of the football. Caldwell went out and invested top choices and top dollar to get the personnel now that should work in Bradley's scheme.

Now we wait.

Rob Ryan won't be coaching Seattle the way he is at their throats.

If you change the name of a position that a player plays, that player is rendered useless. It's been proven over and over again in Madden for years.
