Matt Jones 3rd best Jag All TIme

#41

Matt Jones was lazy and dumb, he was often trying to make easy catches with one hand. On the field it looked like he ran a 4.7 btw.

TBH, I do think Reggie was never used in a good way. I followed him a lot on game day and the dude was often open while Leftwich/Garrard didn't look his way. Was he great? no, but I do think he had the potential to be a pretty good #2 WR. I also loved (unlike most people on here who just loved to hate him) his intensity and passion for the game, he was always having fun.

He's not even the most talented drunk WR in Jags history. He's not even the most talented coke addict in Jags history. Blackmon and Jimmy all day behbeh.

I seriously thought Matt Loaf was gonna be the next Randy Moss when we drafted him.

Quote:Matt Jones would be hard stretched to make the current roster at WR. The guy wasn't even a football player. Granted he had great hands and speed, but he avoided contact at all costs, and if a ball were knocked loose and was up for grabs, he'd just stand there looking at it refusing to get into the action. The only player I can think of who was even wimpier than Matt Jones was Deji Karim.

Remember the time he ducked in anticipation of a hit that never came after a short reception? The footsteps he heard were at least ten yards away. I called him Matilyn after that.

My favorite Matt Jones moment was when he took an unscheduled break during a full pads practice and, to the complete consternation of the coaching staff, went and laid down on the sideline to relax. People there were stunned at his utter lack of even the pretense of taking his position seriously. An absolute clown.

i loved reggie for his run blocking I remember him leveling some one from buffalo still one of the most Bone jarring blocks I've ever seen a wr make other than Hines ward break in jaws

Quote:I agree with the premise. He had more God given ability than any WR that has ever played for the Jaguars. He just didnt care one bit about football. And as the many jokes above have said, he'd rather do coke in a walmart parking lot than be in the NFL. If he had had the desire and the "want to" of a guy like Wes Welker, he would have been an awesome football player. He was so talented. Total waste.

I think sometimes we as sports fans dont appreciate players who are blessed athletically and live up to the hype. I'm not comparing the two, but a guy like Lebron has more God given ability and talent than arguably anyone in NBA history. He hit the ultimate gene pool jackpot. The powerball of genetics. Just total dumb luck. And to his credit, he has taken that ability and maximized his potential. We expect him to be great because he is just so much bigger and more athletic than everyone else. And he has worked his butt off to be as good as he could be. Matt Jones on the otherhand didnt work a day in his life to becoming better at football. Total waste, total shame.

To me Matt Jones wasnt all that impressive physically. He was easily pushed around by smaller CBs despite his size. Showed zero pull away or explosion despite his so called "speed". His change of direction abilities were a joke.

Add in him missing the mental part of his game and also being a sissy on the field and its the Gabbert of WRs. He was 6'6 and thats it hardly ground breaking for a nfl wr. Mentioning him in the same paragraph as lebron is hilarious.

I was surprised to see he retured in 2010.  This bio was enlightening.

The hogsters on the board are probably thrilled to see this dead horse being dredged up again.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

OP got what he wanted, 3 pages of junk so far

When he did catch the ball, he tended to immediately curl into a fetal position and fall backwards.  A waste of physical talent.

If you want to talk about unappreciated receivers, let's talk about Ernst Wilford.  Who could forget his debut game against Buffalo?

Quote:1.) Jimmy Smith

2.) Keenan

3.) Matt jones

4.) Mike Sims Walker

5.) Allen Hurns

If Matt Jones isn't top 3 who would you put? He had all the potential but Gerrad did not have the deep ball pass which Matt jones exceled at.

Jimmy Smith

Keenan McCardell

Allen Robinson
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

#59

Matt Jones wouldn't even be the third best WR on the current roster.

#60

Matt Jones could have been the white Randy Moss.
