So last year was my first time playing and same with several of us in the league which consist of coworkers.


This year we are wanting to do a draft party and do an offline draft. Any suggestions on draft tools, kits, or websites to use? Free would be best, any how-to's to do your own free draft boards?

Yes. Everyone has to get together tho, they pick who they want and then somebody inputs the info into the system that you are using.

There was 10 last year. It is doable, people do it all the time.  Have you played FF before?

 

Not to insult your intelligence, but you have heard of fantasy draft parties, right? I'm sure people don't go toting their laptops to a bar or some place and do an online draft. How do you think they did it in the early days? I remember last year going to Buffalo's and there was a table of about 10 people with notebooks and other things. It was around the time of fantasy football getting ready to start.

It would be fun if each of your friends treated it like an NFL team with their own board behind them, and table with phone... as they made their picks.. :woot:

 

I do fantasy football online much easier than you can simply have your friends do it from their own home online for free..

I only do offline drafts in my one league with friends from college. We usually make a weekend of it. Been 9 years now with the same dudes. One year, someone couldn't make it so he skyped in.


Some pointers:

1. Pick the date now so people can plan accordingly. Also, send out a doodle to see which dates work best.

2. I make a custom board every year using the trifolds you would use for science projects in school. They're awesome.

3. Have a Vana White. Some guy not in the league but he just wants to party. He can write in the names.

4. Golf in the morning. Everyone talks smack about the draft before hand and it's fun.

Pretty easy to do with ESPN League Manager tools. You can either input the offline draft results as they happen (ie. the commisioner has their laptop at the life draft) or you can manually do it after the draft.

 

It's pretty fun to have a big board where each owner walks up and writes their own player in the grid. It adds the excitement of "who are they gonna take??" as they walk up.

You can bait other dudes into taking players. Heckle your friends. Boo their picks. Yell "REACH" or get mad when they take a guy you wanted. Not to mention, drinking brews and talking football. It's the best.

We might have us a Vana White already if she comes like she says she will, she just wants to party and she's pretty cool. 

 

Frailbones, so what does your board look like and do you have the names color coded based on positions like I have seen on some websites? Do you have names already made with Velcro? From what it seems like I don't need to buy expensive kits, just get creative and make my own.

 

Is there a certain place you get the player names from to make sure you have everyone, including noboby's?

A trick that we've settled on regarding the "board" is a vinyl tarp with a grid painted on it. Since our draft moves from place to place, it makes it a lot easier to take down and travel with.


Once the draft is over and before we all get stinking drunk, we take pictures of everyone's team and send them to everyone. I usually put the names in whilst nursing a hangover.

Great questions.


1. My boards change every year. I have a different theme. Last year, I did a Game Of Thrones board where every guy had their own "house" and it was awesome. I've done the Sandlot and TMNT and embarrassing pics of managers too.

2. We just use a marker to write the names in but our Vana gets drunk so by the end the names are skewed.

3. I don't use Velcro but you totally can. Just get the top 400 or so players and then have some that are blank so you can write them in.

4. We do have different colored markers for positions though.

I'm down with that. After playing FF on NFL, Yahoo, and ESPN, I think I like ESPN the best. I can create a 10 or 12 person league if you want. Interested in making it an auction/keeper league?
